I'd go south not much difference really but for me I have friends along the southern route. I know that doesn't help you much though. Pretty country either which way.

Big the website you posted doesn't work for me. If you are still in Az. I would take I-40 all the way to Henrietta Oklahoma then South on Indian Nation turnpike to Hugo, South to Paris on 271, West on 271 to Mount Pleasant, hit I-30 East to Texarkana then South on I-49 to Lafayette. There you will hit I-10 East and there is just about no way around Baton Rouge which is a ***** if you hit it at rush hour. There is a very interesting rest stop with good coffee at I believe exit 118 on the swamp basin causeway. bg

Austin Texas is a great city, lots fun outdoor things to do. I used to drive there from Ft. Hood for weekends, of
coarse that was in the 70's. :D

San Antonio is probably the messiest to get through and since you were there it may not be so bad. Last time I was through there was two years ago. Houston is usually not too bad except at rush hour, straight through on I-10 or if traffic is heavy the North loop. One thing for sure, you will probably be in Texas at least one day as it is 868 miles from El Paso to the Louisiana line. Hope you have an enjoyable trip. bg

Gail is REALLY enjoying the drive on I 10, I've asked him if there is a fire that he's running away from? His Evil smile as he pointed to the speed limit signs told his story.

Not that he ever really adhered to the 55 MPH. But not looking over his shoulder all the time sure makes it nice.

Yeah, the old saying used to be "The telephone poles look like fence post" when you were going fast. Besides, it don't take long to look at some of the scenery out that way. bg

Big when you hit Louisiana it's gonna seem like you are sittin still trying to stay around 70 mph, you have to be alert there, you will probably see more State Troopers going through Louisiana than all together elsewhere on your journey and yes they still hide behind the overpass embankments there. bg

Isn't that how "Easy Riders" ended?

He still trying to catch up with his windshields???:D

I wasn't doing to bad, I had the cruse set at 85 MPH at about 3 MPG :-laf (I don't think I really want to know the MPG

The two that are caravanning with us I think have some laundry chores to take care of :-laf

I never seen that many triple digit trucks, all O/O's of course. I really don't want to rag on the truckers but most all of them should really take a refresher course on HOW TO DRIVE, Its shameful that they actually have a CDL

Well at least we all made it and are letting the rubber cool in an RV park in San Antonio TX. The others are wanting to see the sites tomorrow so I think that we are hear for at least a few days. Need to get some good BBQ a few miles from hear and some more of the TEXMEX that we had for lunch.

Supposed to rain so we may change the Travel Plan and instead of heading to New Orleans go to Memphis & Nashville then down to New Orleans, there's lots of talk about flooding in N O.

Take care

My Sis-in-law reports their trip thru West Texas on I-10 last month, was terrible rough; lots of heaving & gaps. FWIW

We decided with the amount of rain that had fallen in San Antonio TX that we'd better get while the gettin was good. When we were leaving early this AM Penny said that the road underpass's were flooded.

We ran North to Dallas/Fort worth and took I 30 to Arkansas because the plan to hit New Orleans wasn't much better than staying in San Antonio. We are headed to Memphis with a temporary stopover in a Really nice St Park of Arkansas, at least for a few days until we are scheduled to be in Memphis.

This park is really pretty awesome!! haven't had much time to ever stop and smell the roses so to speak on some of the disaster relief trips that I took over the years and had always thought that I would return to take a look, kind of glad we did. Instead of taking 30 into Little Rock we got off the main Hwy at Benton AR and used Hwy's 5, 9, 10 to take a more rural approach to the park, well worth the time!!

BIG your in my country if you need anything holler? Enjoy Petit Jean it is a neat area for use. If you get home sick you can take a day trip up to the Ponca Boxley area and see the elk herd and the buffalo river area another beautiful area. Enjoy and be sure and have some ribs at the rondevu in Memphis.

This park is really a Gem! I've been out taking pictures for the entire time we've been here and still have more that I want to take. Is it hard to get a Deer tag in this state? I got up this AM it was foggy, but Deer were everywhere!! don't think long shots are possible what a Bow hunting opportunity. Definitely glad to have stopped here.

Tomorrow I have an appointment at the Cummins Dealer in Little Rock to get the Speedo on the MH fixed. I was sitting at a fuel stop waiting for the others to fuel up and noticed that I was going 110 MPH sitting still

I suggested that Penny put her seat belt on as I thought that we may be going to HYPER SPACE at any moment :-laf

It never did happen, but I kind of like to know just how fast I'm going (its just a little quirk of mine ) the service writer said that its a pretty common problem that takes no time at all to fix. I can bet that the cost isn't as easy to come by as the fix.

Other than that this MH is a blast to drive. The sweet spot that it likes is 1325 to 1400 RPM which when one of the others pulled up next to me and we ran together put the MPH at 60 to 65 MPH at from 8 to almost 9 MPG. I liked the overhead Fuel mileage better with the speedo messed up I was someplace near 90 MPG ;)

The Rendezvous is one of many BBQ places that I have on a list to eat at, Along with Breakfasts in Memphis. When we got off the main Hwy to run back roads to the state park we stopped at a little market for a break ( to much coffee ) a young man asked us if we were lost? Penny said Not Yet but we're working on it, He said that if we needed something to eat just up the road his Uncle had a BBQ place. We thanked him and went on our way, we passed the BBQ shop when Penny asked, I wonder what kind of BBQ they have? I told by the looks and size of the snow shovel in the back of that kids Pickup probably anything that gets hit!!

I seen a episode of Andrew Zimmern (the guy that eats ANYTHING) I cant remember what state he was in but Road kill BBQ was really good according to him.
