CAN any one give any suggestions, for route with 33' 5th wheel, from SF. to Pittsburg pa. first time on a long trip. moving back after 30yrs. getting ready to retire, wanting to leave in june or july. thanks:)

If in a hurry, I-80 goes all the way, but that would be somewhat boring. There are some nice sections for sure, but take some parallel routes and see the scenery. I would especially route south from IA down through Peoria and stay out of the Chicago and northern IN areas. The US roads are pretty good across this area and you should be able to find good campgrounds.

i want to drive for about 6hrs,then stop at a campsite, how are the roads and MOUNTAINS going up 80,the one going over the summit into reno wasnt that bad, pulled it with out any problems.

The road and mountains on 80 aren't bad, just have to watch out for the wind in wyoming and nebraska. I drive "big trucks" around these parts and have seen my fair share of all types of campers and travel trailers on their sides.

Oh , take 5 down to 10 then 75 south in Florida and stay in the Keys for winter. then come back for spring . San Francisco is real mild weather it's really cold in Pittsburgh. Are you sure you want to come back there ? Have a great trip.

I lived in pittsburgh pa for the first 30yrs and now ready to come back to home. just retired, time to get out of calif. well thanks for all your help i will be leaving in july i hope or sooner.

If you take 80 then I would take it to Davenport IA & take I 74 to I 70 in Indy then to I 79 to Pittsburgh. Any thing to not have to go through Chicago. From Davenport to Pittsburgh on 80 is 613 miles 1day 1hr 7min. If you take Davenport to Pittsburgh Via 74,70 79 it is 665 miles 1day 1hr 52min. I would rather drive 45min more then fight Chicago & Indy is not that bad, just went through there a month ago.

I agree with Jack, That's the route I was also thinking of if you want to stay on the Interstates. Indy isn't that bad, take the southern route, but stay in the 2nd lane to avoid the on/off traffic. I'm not sure about Columbus, I always took the northern route because I was going up I-71. I just tried to avoid rush hour if possible when pulling the trailers. No tolls this way either!

I some times take I71 up to I271 then on to I77 which runs into I80 which is the Ohio Turnpike. Going around Columbus on 270 North to I71 is real easy if you don't hit it a rush hour.

What are you thinking? - - It ain't the same Pittsburg it was 30 years ago - - Just the taxes would make me re-think that move. Not trying to bust your bubble - - -but - - - think real hard!
