After reading the thread on Royal purple I realized that I have a Flying J truck stop right up the street that sells Royal Purple. I have been using Rotella with Fram oil filter. Does Royal Purple require a special oil filter? Thanks for your help!!

I have not seen a Royal Purple filter but would suggest that you drop the fram and go with the Fleetguard or Wix filter. The reason being is that there was a web site that this guy tested (non scientific) oil filters. He would cut them open to see how they were made up. Fram was the worst of all the ones he tested. They had the least amount of filtering area, the cheapest filtering media (paper), and several other things. I personally run Royal Purple in my wifes Suburban and like the extended drain periods. I usually go 12,000 miles between oil changes and change the filter at 6,000. So far I am happy. Been running it for the last 2 and 1/2 years, 10-40w. I DO NOT run it in my Cummins because of cost. It is strickly Rotella Super T 15-40, and that is with 230,000+ miles on the Ram (First Gen. ). Good luck and do an oil analysis BEFORE you change over to the Royal Purple just to get a base line to work from.

I strongly suggest that you change the Fram immediately to one of the above brands. I personally run Wix and have never had a problem. Just my Opinion and . 000000002$

shrimby thanks and excellent reply. Never heard that before about fram but sounds like the homework was already done. I am going out today and my first stop will be for a new filter. It won't be fram. Is there a lab which is non-bias that oil samples can be sent to?????

I agree on the Fram. I started out using them because they were the cheapest at Wal-Mart. It seemed like the new oil got awful dirty awful quick so I changed over to Wix and using Shell Rotella T 15W-40 with over 150,000 miles and 5000 mile changes it seems to be working for me.
