any body ever use the RP 15-40 in their CTD?? i use it in my race cars and like it but havent seen anything about using it in a CTD.

TIA!!!

I was reading something recently that Valvoline (RP) pulled it's reccommendation for it's use in our Diesel application. I've confirmed this with one other source. But I still haven't seen anything relating to this matter directly from RP. So I don't believe it 100%.

That being said, I don't recommend RP for use in our trucks at all. Never have, never will. Stick with a good quality oil that IS DESIGNED for use in our trucks. Be it, Delvac 1, Delvac 1300, Rotella, etc. I personally like Amsoil myself and have had no ill from it. In fact I was just recently complimented on how clean the inside of my engine was (don't ask why people are looking at the inside of my engine. It's a sore subject).

Stick with the oils that are made for our trucks and stay away from the flavor of the day. You won't regret it. I promise.

Are you confusing Valvoline Premium Blue with Royal Purple? These are two entirely different companies. I don't note anything on Royal Purple's website about their product not being recommended for Cummins since their 15W-40 is an API CI-4/SL lubricating oil. I certainly wouldn't think that Valvoline had pulled its recommendation for the use of Premium Blue in Cummins diesels since they've historically had a symbiotic marketing relationship with Cummins.

Here is some anti-Royal Purple propoganda from the Amzoil website, you can do with it what you want.

RP/Amzoil

Valvoline and Cummins have a 50/50 joint venture going I doubt any of their products would be incompatable with a Cummins. Does Valvoline own Royal Purple? Maybe Ford owns them!:D

thanks all:D i have another 1k miles before it needs changed and will either use RP or Amsoil i will wait to see what everbody has to say before i make a purchase. i have used the RP and Amsoil in gas motors and had good luck with both,

im just new to the CTD and am still learning. this website is a big help!!

I have not used Royal Purple in the motor but it has been in my Dana 80 for 450k. I'm real pleased. Had the rear end checked for a rebuild at 400k and the shop said no need to do anything. All after many miles of running way heavy. It amazes me how many petrochemical plants all use RP for their industrial lubrication.
