Search Argument Problems???

All the posting notices I've been getting have been tagged with this address.

Ken, time to leave the Ford site alone for a while and worry about the TDR... LOL

Server

Short answer:

TDR and FTE (Ford Truck Enthusiasts) share the same server hardware. It simplifies a lot of things because they share some of the same technology such as the code for the Reader's Rigs and chat.

Long answer:

The sites have been sharing a server for a little over a year. For those who don't know, I own and operate FTE and work as a consultant/contractor for TDR. The server is jointly leased by both companies. The owners of both sites are friendly, discuss issues common to our industry, and the relationship has benefitted both companies. Its one of the reasons why I'm trying to stay on top of server performance: if the server gets slow, FTE's customers are unable to use its online store. Because of that, not only do I have an obligation to TDR to keep the server fast, but I have a vested financial interest to keep it fast. Fortunately, FTE's message boards don't use the same database as TDR so it doesn't impact the performance of the TDR boards.

For the technically inclined:

Recently, many sites on the Internet have been rejecting emails from the TDR site because all emails were being delivered from "linux1788. dn.net" which is the server name. Verio no longer provides DNS for "linux1788. dn.net" so some servers we send mail to did not see the TDR/FTE server as legit and rejected mail from it. To resolve this, we needed to give the server a real name that resolves via DNS. The FTE name is the first in the sendmail hosts file (there are about 30 entries in it) so the sendmail config picks it whenever it doesn't know the hostname (VBulletin doesn't use a hostname when it sends mail). I'm in the process of trying to correct this.

No Affiliation

Just to clear things up, there is no affiliation between the Turbo Diesel Register and the Power Stroke Register. Geno's Garage does advertise in the PSR, but they're a paying advertiser just like anyone else.

The PSR is owned by an individual - also located in Atlanta, GA - by the name of Bill Staib.

Both the TDR and the PSR happen to use the same artist, and when he designed the PSR logo, it surprisingly looked a whole lot like the TDR's logo. While we weren't pleased with the similarity, it did not seem like anything that would cause problems for us.

No more to the story.
