Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) RPM flair at startup

Upon startup my truck's rpm will flair up to about 1800 RPM's for just a split second and then back to normal idle. It does this about once out of every 7 starts. When it first started doing this it only happened about once a month but steadily has got worse. I disconnected the batteries for about an hour, cleaned the posts, disconnected and put dielectric grease on the APPS connection and the injection pump connection. I recalibrated the APPS after I hooked the batteries back up. The problem went away for about five days but then came back. The check engine light also comes on when it does this. I have an appointment to have the codes checked on Saturday but was wondering if anyone has had this problem or knows about this before I go to the dealer so I have something to contribute to the diagnosis. Unfortunately my truck was one of the early ones that does not have the codes show up in the instrument panel.

Ron. . I see you have a fueling box... try turning it down or off before you start the truck. . the only time I have noticed this on my truck is when the box is on a high or the highest setting... Just what I have seen on mine...

Already tried that, disconnected it, turned it off, lowest fueling rate setting, and even exchanged it for a new one, problem is still there.

I havent had any experience with this problem but I was told to check all the connections on the ECM injection pump and the connectors by the drivers side firewall. The problem your discribein sounds like something that me and a friend were talkin about and he took his truck into the dealer and they told him it was a short in a wire to the injection pump causes by moisture in a connector. the ECM isnt recievein a signal fron the injection pump. they cleaned all the connections and put some dielectric grease on the connectors and he hasnt had a proble with it since. Id check the connection
