Ok, I've got an 06 3500 4X4 G56 with 160+kmiles. This is the first 3rd gen i've had with a manual transmission, so I don't know if this is normal or not.

When I am accelerating hard, from about 2900rpms and up, everytime I shift, the truck runs up to wide open, like 3500rpms, and holds if for a second. This is very annoying when I'm in a hurry, as well as I worry about the motor free spooling to those rpm's. Is this normal for these trucks? I can't imagine how it could be. Secondly, is there a way to fix this scenario? Truck is in the shop getting valves adjusted, and a fan clutch, so if I can get it fixed, now's the time.

Thanks

Corey

I think it's something that has to do with the Smarty, but others have told me their stock truck will do it also.

Mine does it and it's just something you have to deal with.

The scarry thing I have heard is some of the auto guys having the RPM's hang and trying to slow down.

I have a smarty jr on my '07, 5. 9 and it doesn't do that.

Motorhead, I am curious :

What level do you run your Smarty jr. on?

Did your truck do it before you ever put your Smarty Jr. on??

Does it do it if you you return to stock with your Smarty Jr. off???

TIA!!!!

Mine did it stock (auto) damn near hit another truck in the mud from what I understand its from residual fuel pressure in the rail Smarty is not the problem Randy

mine will do the RPM hang up and when i am trying to slow down, after hard take off. . and it is a auto... did it stock also... it is not that bad but i can tell it is doing it...

That sounds right, but I am wondering if smarty jr is a fix for this over rev situation which mine does too with a standard transmission.

The turbo is also still spooling for a bit after you take your foot off the go pedal. Also, no offense, but are you completely removing your foot from the throttle before you push in the clutch? Not doing so could contribute to the higher revving. I don't know about the Smarty...

It's normal. I have a hard time believing it's the rail pressure taking that long to come down because there's no way it can take any time at all unless the pump is holding it. Mine has done it since new, with or without the Juice or Smarty or EZ.

If ya really wanna have some fun, hold it until it governs out (3500ish) and then let off. It takes 3-4 seconds to come down off that.

1)I have run it on the 40hp and the 70hp setting with no problems. I still have a stock clutch so I haven't tried the 100hp setting.

2)No, My truck never did it before the Smarty.

3)It seems to be ok with the Smarty removed.

My friends '07, 5. 9 auto will do that and it has never had a Smarty on it.

Thats exactly what I think. If I shift anywhere above 3k rpms, it will run right on up to 3500rpms for about 2 seconds. I have heard the comment that it is rail pressure bleeding off, but that makes no sense, If I shift at 2800rpms, it'll drop right off like every other standard truck I have driven, but once I break the 2900-3000 mark, I let off the gas, hit the clutch, and the motor races to 3500 and holds for a bit. Its really annoying, and embarassing with the straight exhaust, I'm sure everyone around me is thinking "must be his first time with a standard!"

Ok, now that's NOT normal. Mine won't increase RPM on it's own. I thought maybe yours was just holding RPM like mine. Yours has an "issue" of some sort.

Corey,

I have the same set-up as you but mine don't do it but I drive like a grandma and never see above 2. 5K RPM. :) What torque management is your Smarty? You might have a wild TM. Try downloading the mild TM.

Truck does it with smarty, without smarty, moderate torque management, mild torque management, it doesnt matter. It isn't a Smarty issue, as the truck will do it without Smarty.
