Attention: TDR Forum Junkies Hi Folks: Friend of mine with an 03 CTD 2500 with 48re has a weird problem with his Truck. The engine will surge in rpm at least 1000 rpm off idle then drop back to idle immediately. It has also kicked up in rpm while he is in gear and driving. The other day it just died after one of the surges and he had to restart it. Today I parked beside him with my 04 while our trucks idled as we were trying to see how his would react to cooling off and if the fast idle would kick in. (it was -4 degrees this am. ) Mine started on fast idle as the guage dropped below 1/4 and shut off at 1/3. His didn't kick in until it dropped to the 1st mark on the guage and shut off again at less than 1/4. It also idled with a faint but detectable rise and fall in rpm. ( not the variation we see with the intake heater cycling, both trucks were already warmed up and allowed to cool at idle). Question here is what could be wrong? It didn't do the high rpm surge we heard earlier but it will do it again for sure. The Tech at the dealership couldn't find any codes etc. Any one have this problem already solved?
