How important is the black rubber accordian boot on the steering rod (rod just below the steering colum). I noticed mine has torn, due to rubbing against the remote breather hose (and the frame) I put in acouple of years ago. I've now re-routed the breather, but am left with the torn accordian boot.

Can I just leave it that way or will running it that way create wear on that part . It seems like like a pain to get in there and put a new one on.

thanks in advance
