New Bio rule

I JUST BOUGHT A 98 12 VALVE, I PLAN ON RUNNING HER ON AS MUCH BIODIESEL AS WEATHER PERMITS, (living at 8300' in the rockies) I WONDER IF EVER THERE HAS BEEN A LIST COMPILED OF RUBBER PARTS (if any) THAT COULD BECOME A LONG TERM PROBLEM RUNNING BIO AND SHOULD EVENTUALLY BE REPLACED IN THESE ENGINES... ... I VE READ ALOT ABOUT THE ISSUES WITH BIO AND RUBBER, AND I VE READ THAT NEWER MOTORS DON T USE RUBBER BUT NEVER SEEN ANYTHING SPECIFIC FOR MY ENGINE, WHAT ABOUT THE P7100 INJECTION PUMP?

JUST STARTING OUT, WANT TO DO IT RIGHT.

THANKS

I know its not part of the engine... .

if you have a drop in bedliner, it will turn it to goo... ... so don't spill it and let it sit there thinking its water from the last rain storm. Don't ask me how I know this odd little factoid.

I've been looking for that also , haven't found any thing yet except that after 94 there are not spouse to be anything in the fuel system that is still rubber , being that mine is a 12-93 I am still looking.

i have been running astm-approved B100 and mixes for a full year and 3 mos. and about 20,000 mis. So far not a single problem. When changing fuel filter be careful not to drip fuel onto grease boots. I dripped some onto my motor mounts which i am not sure what they are made of, but i did my best to wipe them off. I was told by a former supplier, Footprint Recycling, Arcata, CA, that they are as precise as possible with their methhydroxide to limit the amount of leftover methanol or methanol compounds in the biodiesel. Apparently its the methanol that is degrading to rubber. I am not sure how accurate this info is, just my two cents...

Fill in the info on your truck in control pannel it helps for complete info- if your truck is after 94 its not spouse to be a problum, first I heard about the methonal yet thanks.

Response to Theferalkid,

I haven't brewed any bio yet, but plan to. I have been reading pretty hard for ~a year. If the bio is properly washed it should have virtually no trace of methoxides. My understanding is the inherent properties of the bio is really tough on rubber. A natural occurring result of running bio in an 'old' system, is a scouring effect that essentially cleans all built up crap leftover from the dino days.

I have a 145k on my 96 and am already thinking about how to mitigate this effect. Probably run a few tanks mixed ~b20-50 for a while so it's not so severe. Will be changing a lot of fuel filters. Might be a good time to install a fuel pressure guage. Best to monitor potential issues in real time.

Considering an oversized fuel tank. Maybe it would be best to replumb and start running bio at the same time... .

Too many issues/decisions.

Best wishes to all at a commendable pursuit,

Hvy
