I have a few gallons of a rubber like product that's used in the natural gas world to encapsulate leaks. It's a two part product that when mixed produces a quick curing rubber that sticks to anything and is tough as nails.

I'm thinking use it to coat the oil pan, use several layers and reduce the noise level somewhat. If it works out, I may remove the valve covers and coat them.

Just wondering if anyone had used a similar product in this application, if so, how'ed it work.

Thanks RJR

That is a concern I used to have, however others have insulted the pan using a variety of products (sheet lead, Dynamat, foam rubber) and have not had any issue with heat.

I've been looking for a material like that to do the same thing.

I think it could serve two purposes. The first being the obvious noise reduction, but, if you make it thick enough, you could run screws into it to fasten other types of sound deadener to it.

I say go for it, and if you can share with us, where can we find this stuff?

Let us know here how it turns out. It might be something that really helps people out that dont want/like the diesel sound. My only question for you is, once it applied, how would you get it off if there would be a problem? Thanks
