Hey you guys with crewcabs,

check under your rubber floor mats, my CA (rust free)crew cab has a ton of metal oxide  on the floor boards. I just spent my sunday cutting out rusty metal and MIGing in new. I am getting ready to install my new carpeting and knew I had some surface rust, but to my suprise I had some swiss cheese for some of my floor boards:( . It was well hidden under the CRAPPY under coating done by Spring Lake, MI Ziebart. Boy was that a waste of $300, they undercoated my tires, dirt, drive shaft, shocks, My new wheels, etc. . But back to the point, check your trucks out, it might save you alot of work later.

I too have a 'stipper' truck and have the rubber floor mat as opposed to the carpet. They hold moisture and rot out your floors, and make the cab stink.

I pulled mine up and my floor was soaked and starting to rust. The rust is at bay and I replaced ALL of the sheet metal screws with aluminum 'nut-serts' and stainless-steel screws and finish washers..... 'never-seized' all the hardware and coated with silicone. Next step is Dynamat spray in sound insulation all over the floorboards and cab wall..... and CARPET instead of the mat.

Don't undercoat... . use transmission fluid. I'm having mine done before winter and then again in the spring... . illegal... yeah, but it works really well at keeping the rust down. :D

I'm glad I read this post... . I was considering pulling my carpet from my Ford and swapping in the rubber mat. Is there a decent way to keep the moisture from getting trapped in the first place? If i decide to still go with the rubber, I think a couple of coats of that roll-on bed liner material like Herculiner might be a good idea first. What do you all think?

That's what I'm gonna do..... I'm going to coat my entire cab floor and cab wall with some stuff like that and then put down some carpet..... just be sure that the roll-in bedliner is DRY first! :D

I'm still not sure if I'm going to use the Herculiner type stuff or just buy some of that new stuff from Dynamat... you spray it in with shop air and their little gun setup... it's supposed to deaden sound, etc.

Don't forget to loose all the rusty hardware too... .

Check the weather strip at the doors... . I think mine was letting in a bit of water at the bottom.
