Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Rubber trans cooler lines

I've researched the threads on replacement lines, and all indicate the new lines are expensive, and suggest rubber lines. Has anyone done that? How and where would you hang the rubber lines? Has anyone thought about or tried to cut out the rusted section and replace that piece with compression fittings and rubber? Thanks. Doug
