what is the deal with these dodges? i have seen several like this including mine. the piece of black rubber trim above the door handle by the window is rusting/bubbling up! has this happened to anyone elses. do i have to pay the dealer some wacked out price to get yet another thing fixed on my well built dodge or can you buy these after market? thanks. scott.

Yep, it's happening to me and I've seen many other trucks with it too. I'm going to let it go over winter and replace it in the spring, then I'm going to tear the old one apart and see if I can fix it permanently.

Yes, I have replaced both of mine this year on my '96. They aren't bad as far as dealer prices go, they were under $30 each as I recall. I buffed and reprimered the door area it sits on, then put a little lithium lube on it to help keep the corrosion down. I don't know of any aftermarkets.

Best of luck!

The ones on my 95 are bad. The metal inside the rubber is rusted in half. There is no saving them. Seems water gets in the end of them and start the rusting process. Jeff

Mine too. I'm glad to see they are not too expensive to replace. I guess I change them out when I pull the panel off to put new speakers in.

Mine are rusting too. I wonder if i could use my grease gun injection needle and squirt a bit in there if it would make a barrier to keep the water out? Just a thought.

Mine started bubbling up with one year of delivery of the truck

(Feb. 20, 1998). It was not bad to start with, but now it has realy gotten bad. Will also replace it in the spring.

Judging by some of the replies, I don't think you guys realize how easy these are to change... you roll your window all the way down; grab ahold of the back end of it; and pull up and back on it.

There's nothing too it. They are a lot easier to change now, as opposed to when they've rotted in half too.

Just a thought ;)

Mine too

Sounds like an easy fix and not to hard on the pocket either. I'm joining the club and doing them in the Spring also.

How High, How Far?

Ksiebern, you can do better than that. More specifics please.

Grab with what, pull up how high before pulling back? Help me out here before I break something.

Thanks,

Jay

At the front of the trip piece it traveles underneath the mirrior facia... thats the only spot you have to watch.

It comes out pretty easy you push the trim up at the back end with your hand, thumb, whatever of the sort... then you simply pull it the rest of the way up and back watching that you don't crack the mirror trim.

Don't over complicate it ;)

Later my friends!
