Hi Michael,

Thanks for the post! Had I known sooner it would have made a perfect excuse to get a Birthday Cake... I'm thinking chocolate ice cream cake... . OK, better snap out of it.

Just to correct the record, Rudolf didn't intend the engine to run on vegetable oil. He wanted it to be able to run on whatever fuel was cheapest at the moment. Then, like now, that was petroleum fuels. Rudolf first saw his engine running on peanut oil at the 1901 Paris Expedition. His engine licensee in France had the engine on display. It was a surprise to Rudolf at the time. While he tried lots of fuels, including solid powdered ones, he never tried any vegetable oils himself.

TDR, Best information!

That's what I like the best about TDR. You can get the most important information on the planet:D So, why not your "garden variety" HPCR Cummins runnin' on veg-oil:confused: Isn't that the way it's suppose to be? Thanks again for the History, and Happy 149th Birthday Mr. Diesel

Patrick.

I'm honored to have my own birthday 5 days before Mr. Rudolf Diesel's. I always knew there was a reason for my diesel obsession... :-laf

Be sure to wish the man a happy birthday:)

Michael

P. S. Matt happy belated again lol

Having a cycle named after you - that's how you know you're important!

Here's something to ponder: if Rudolf were alive today, do you think he would be happy with what his engine has become?

He died when he was only 55.

If he lived today, and had invented this oil engine thing, he would be thrown into prison.

There is a sweet article about the man and his engine in Diesel Progress.
