New Mexico road question

Don't Drive in Maryland This A.M. !

Just curious if anybody has any experience with the new carbines. My friend has the old style, the one with the tubular mag. but i guess the switched to the cartridge kind now. They supposedly went with the same firing mechanism as the mini 14/30. I hate the caliber of the mini, . 223 and 7. 62 but they seem like there built well. I have always been a big fan of the 44 mag in a rifle, and the semi action is great for hunting pigs in the mountains. Any way any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Aloha!!

I did have the older 44 mag Ruger rifle and loved it. My Naval friend just bought the new model and loves it. I always miss that old rifle. Wish I had never traded it away. I saw the newer model over the Christmas holiday when he broguht it over. The only thing I did not like was the price. He said he paid nearly 6 bills for it.

Other than the high price... It seems like winner.

Ruger quite making the 44 carbine semiauto in 1986. This is what I have always shot, and love it. The problems with the pre 86 is the accuracy. The barrel lug needs to be bedded in the stock with Accraglass to relieve the barrel tension caused when you squeeze the barrel into the stock and place the retainer ring on. The barrel should lay in the stock, you should not have the squeeze the barrel and stock together. With tension, the barrel archs while shooting and sprays bullets everywhere.

The new 44 carbines place the gas ports on top like the mini-14/30, which is a much nicer design. The old style was also a 1 in 26 twist barrel, the new is 1 in 18. I have seen the new for $399. 00(Blue). The old style also has an adjustable trigger pull, which can make a huge difference in the shooters opinion of the gun. Mine was at 15 pounds from the factory, now at 7 1/2.
