My truck just started "rumbling" at idle. It started after refueling. I ran the tank pretty dry, refueled, drove about 30 miles and t started. I just had a new torque converter installed about 200 miles ago, thought it had something to do with that. Could I have a bad load of fuel or plugged injector? Truck runs out fine, just rough idle.

It's really strange. The truck runs out fine, but the rumble is there on and off from idle to high speed. I think it's a fuel issue because it comes and goes consistantly. I will refuel soon and put some more fuel conditioner in. Has anyone ever had a condition with bad fuel. What are the symptoms?

The simplest answer is probably correct. Other than running the tank dry (which shouldn't cause too many problems), you say you've changed out the torque convertor. With a new stock unit? I'd first suspect that to be the culprit, somehow.

I had an ATS torque converter installed with a trans command unit. It operated perectly after it was installed. I was suspect of the converter as well so I took it back to the dealer that installed it. he said everything checked out fine and thought it may be fuel or a plugged injector. It actually feels like the truck has a rough idle, and occassionally it will idle perfectly, then go back to the "rumble". Almost like a rough idle. I'm going to take it into the dealership next week and see what they say. I just refuelled to see if it may work itself out before I take it in.

If it comes and goes like that I'd suspect a control problem - maybe a intermittent-fault in a sensor. Depending on how rough it is, it could be the A/C compressor cycling, or even the grid heaters. If it were a bad injector I'd expect it to idle rough all the time, not intermittently.

I am betting it is an injector. When my first one went bad it was intermittent for about a week before it idled rough all the time. They replaced #3 and stated that #5 may not be far behind. I now am back to an intermittent rough idle and raw diesel smell at start-up. Since I do not tow heavy with the truck I will wait until it goes to bad all the time and bring it back in. There is nothing worse than bringing it in only to have it not act up for the dealer.

The more I drive it the more it feels like it's a cylinder shy of running correctly. I'm going to take it in to Dodge tomorrow. I'll post the findings. Thanks for the inputs.

Bad fuel pump

Brought my truck to Dodge today about the rumbling and power loss. They just called back. It's a leaky fuel pump. The fuel is leaking all over the wiring harness according to the tech. I never noticed it! Ithought for sure they would void the warranty beacuse of the Banks and ATS system! I asked if this was a common problem. response:

"It is on yours"

They have to order the new pump. It'll be done Friday PM.
