I went down to look at the new Megacab today to see about trading in my 01. I have gotten a lot of good use out of my long bed and have a hard time giving that up. I seem to relocate every 10 months and it comes in handy moving the furniture. Anyway I asked the dealer about the possiblitiy of a long bed. They mention the 4500 the was slated to come out in 07. Has anyone heard of such a thing? I know about the ones from Mexico. Can anyone corroborate this?

Not rumor. This has been substantiated already. Unfortunately, I have no "new" news to report.

The truck will be marketed as dual badge unit, with Dodge getting a 4500/5500, and Sterling getting same capacity units.

GVW will be a low of 13,500, and a high of 19,500.

Engine will be the Cummins 6. 7 (no confirmation if this will also be in the 2500/3500 Dodge)

No word on which transmissions will be available, my "guess" would be the NV5600 6speed manual, and for the auto- the new one that Dodge is working on, but again, that's a guess.

Cab is Dodge unit, front end modified to fit new chassis. No word on what configurations, but will probably offer quad cab along with the standard cab.

Wheels are 19. 5, 4 wheel disc brakes.

Questions still unanswered- Where will they be assembled?, When is the actual start date of production?

The Sterling unit will go nicely with our new low cab forward unit in the same gvw range that we are getting from Mitsubishi.

As soon as I can get more, I'll let you know.

Dont get the new truck. It is very computer controlled, much more than your 01, gets worse mileage and will cost more to fix down the road. the mega cab is ugly IMO. keep what you got, who needs another payment ?

Talked to a Dodge dealer today and they where told they needed 12000# truck lifts for the new Dodges. I think the new 4500 & 5500 are on the way. Oo.

4500/5500

Anybody know of any pics or links with photo's of these? We have the F-450/550's for Wildland fire engines and Helicopter chase trucks for the Forest Service. The Powerjokes are 200% better than the Triton V-10, but a long ways from being a Cummins. I am very interested in the Ram 4500/5500 for our fleet use if anyone has anymore info. Thanks.

I think its a Sterling?

"Adding a truck that covers classes 3, 4, and 5 to the Sterling line-up"

Looks like the frame would be based on a "Mitsubishi Fuso"

A ricer frame, with Cummins power and a Dodge body to top it off. WOW talk about a true "World Truck" Oo. :D

Wonder where it would be assembled US of A?? or Mexico??

These trucks will be cab-over trucks not conventional trucks. Now that's not to say the new 4500/5500 won't make use of the same frame but I doubt that the frames would be interchangeable.

The low cab forward truck is a rebadged Mitsubishi (Fuso) truck. It will have a little bit less standard equipment, and fewer options than the same model Fuso, and be a little less expensive. The only thing about this unit that is similar to the conventional truck is the weight class. Nothing will be shared by these two platforms. The new 4500/5500 is 100% Dodge(with engineering and production help from Sterling/Freightliner). There are a few images of these units, but the reps are not allowed to let them out of their hands! They can show you, but that is it. Production date for the Sterling was confirmed as early '07. I would assume that the Dodge (same truck) would coincide.
