run away fuel prices

OK everyone,, what is the prediction for $5/gal. diesel going to be? I think at this rate maybe it will be Memorial Day weekend. It seems as if that is what the big oil companies are shooting for. Everyday seems to be at least a 4-5 cent jump in price. Heck , recently I have seen them change their prices twice in one day. . Short of stop driving, does anyone see any relief in sight? It is always some excuse,, winter heating oil, not enough production, too much this , too little that,,, where is the end? Does anyone think the price will ever go back to reasonable. When it got to $3/ gal ,, everyone thought $2. 50 sounded good , it got to $3. 50, $3 sounded good , Now it is over $4/gal, and what sounds good? ,,,,,,,nothing to me!

Please explain to me what exactly "big oil" is doing to cause this problem. Oil is a commodity, "big oil" doesn't set the price, it trades at market value. "Big oil" has profit margins akin to most small businesses in this country.



If "big oil" had been allowed by the government to drill domestically and build new refineries over the last two decades rather than listen to a bunch of america hating, big buisiness hating freaks, we wouldn't be having this discussion, nor would we likley have the Mexican invasion problem.

My point is when do you think it will reach the $ 5/Gal mark,, yes oil is a commodity,, but production from refineries is controlled by 'big oil',,,the short supply of ultra low sulfur diesels is helping to drive up prices also,

big oil, not only means companies is this country but the middle east as well,,, the shrinking dollar hurts as well,

Well, suppose that by paying a few speculators to bet insane prices on the futures market, Big Oil can rise the "free market" price a few dollars. Let's say, they are wrong, and LOSE a few MILLION per month, but still, they make BILLIONS at the pump due to higher "free market" price.



Oil is bought and sold on long term contracts, and Saudis or Iran don't get anywhere near the "free market" futures price listed in our news media.



In fact one man bet, and lost only about $1000 to raise the price of crude to $100 for a day, so his name would go down in history. How much more can an oil company afford to hire people to play that game?



And that applies to all other commodities. Free market, my ... . #@$%!

Yeah, $5/gal diesel is right around the corner. It'll come back down, though, watch and see. Question is how much and when.

Mexico can't keep with demand and is importing oil from us. They must be getting a hell of a price to be charging $2. 00/gallon. I live 20 minutes from the border and gotta get down there. Who knows anymore?

Yep diesel converted to $2. 16 - $2. 18 USD when I was down in Los Mochis a little over a week ago.

Now Bush has wanted for some years to allow mexican trucks to drive thru the US.

Imagine what they would do to the trucking industry, if they can fill up for 2000 miles with cheap LSD fuel, not need to pay insurance, and not need to have particle filters.

Maybe there'll be a gray market for cheaper LSD. Or there is one already?

There is already a lot of crime related to the high fuel cost,some you see on tv,some has not been caught yet. There are truckers out there doing what ever it takes to get fuel in their tanks to put food on the table.

I'm sure the oil companys know that we really have no choice so they charge what they think they can get. The only alternative I see is Bio Diesel and I doubt that a signifigant amount of people will go through the trouble.
