ac on a 4bt help?

I have the roadranger rto 6610 with 4. 10 gears and 37" tires. In 10th gear i'm at 60 MPH 2800 RPMs. Is this transmission normally geared that low? I thought that the transfer case was in low but it's not. I start out in 5th gear and quickly run out of gears. I'm thinking about re-gearing but want to make sure that I'm not missing something. :{

The "O" in RTO means it is an overdrive unit. Notwithstanding what any of the other gears are, I think the overdrive gear is a . 86, which isn't really fast as overdrives go, but it's faster than direct and with your tire size and rear gearing, I think you should be doing a little better than that at 2800. Are you sure your transmission isn't just a "RT" (stands for Roadranger Transmission) direct drive? The rest of the nomenclature regards torque rating and number of forward speeds.

Based on your rear axle gears and RPM at 60 mph, you must have a direct drive transmission. When in 10th, is the stick up or down. Down is direct drive, up is overdrive. Most of the small 10 spds came as direct, however they are easy to change the ratio.

I've been out driving around and 10th is top right instead of at the bottom. I'm thinking about replacing the rear corporate 14 with a Dana 71. If I did this I can get down to 3. 07 but I'd have to replace the front axle with a Dana 44 wich I'm not a huge fan. Would this be cheaper than re-gearing the trans?

You should be able to buy used gears from a re-builder cheap. You will need one main drive gear and both counter shaft drive gears, however you might already have an overdrive if 10th is up.

The older 1st gen. Dodge's used 3. 07 in the Dana 60 front, they might fit your truck. Sounds like a cool truck, I would like to see the 10 spd installation.

It is a cool truck. Everytime I take it out I get stopped by at least one person. I came out of the gas station to find two guys on their backs under my truck. I should have started the truck just to see how fast they could move but I didn't. I'll put up some pics as soon as I can get the camera from my wife. I'm probably going to get the axles instead of mess with the transmission. It was hard enough just getting the trans in so I really don't want to take it out. Anyway thanks for the info. Also, It has a bendix compressor and I'm going to take it off. Anybody know if a 12 volt compressor will hold up. I was looking at one of the viair compressors but I'm not sure.

Runnin outa gears with a 10 speed ? What??

Did you actually read a tag on the transmission that says RTO 6610 ?

Those air lines can get plumbed wrong so the position of the lever means nothing there might be an electronic unit avalible or mechanical for high low

But hear is a question un need to check out Are you shure its a 10 spped ?

and not a 13 or a 10 speed with a deep reduction unit ? since you bought that as a basket case and more than a few things have been a headache

on it id suspect that you might have a deep reduction 10 speed , as with 35's to 37's you should be a lot lower RPMs than that looking at one of those tire diameter charts . gear ration in the 4x4 magazines the max you should be is 2200this why im sticking with 35s on my burb

but if need be i got a 3 speed brownie ill sale you

I think that I might be crazy but when I drive this thing around in low range 5th is at the bottom right but when I am in high range the highest gear is at the top right where I would have thought that 9th gear would have been. 9th and 10th are so close as far as the RPM difference but i'm now certain that the top right is a higher gear than the bottom right when I'm in high gear. I looked at the tag on the trans and it says RTO 610 not 6610. I don't know what the difference is but I was told it was a 6610 but I was unable to find any info on the rto 6610 on roadranger site. I used the np205 tranfer case.

Runnin outa gears with a 10 speed ? What??

Anouther thing that crossed my mine is that those axels are you shure you have 4:11s and not 4:56s as what was the norm in 1 ton chevs ?

If i can do this right is the shift pattern like this :

R 2 5

1 3 4

What you describe sounds like a 9speed to me

Do you know if that transmission has been apart before ?

also on the very back of the trans is there a spot for anouther

air line if so my gues is its a deep reduction unit

A 610 is a low torque transmission but it is the same case as many others out there so it could be any thing

R 2 5

1 3 4

if that is the shift pattern it should be an RTX, from what i remember. the X i remember being on that funny shift from 3rd to 4th. you can get many variations of 9 speed over drives. call your local big truck transmission shop and they can tell you all the rpm specifics. the trans would probly be the cheapest way to go. a rebuilt 9 speed is probly about 2800 dollars or less. either way its all on you... ... ... . LOL.
