I want to get running boards for my '92, but can't seem to find them anywhere... Any ideas?? I've tried the usuals: JC Whtney, EBay, Google etc with no luck. It's an extended cab, so I assume they will be even harder to find than a standard cab. Any thoughts/links would be appreciated. B.

Good luck. I was looking a few weeks ago and couldn't find any either. I even have a good friend in the truck accesory business, and he came up dry. My truck even had dee zees on it when I got it from my dad 12 years ago. I took them off for larger tires, and now I wanted them back, but can't find them.

However, my brother works in a fab shop that makes equipment with sheets of stainless steel. They have a large brake and we are going to bend up a set for my truck, using an old set on an 88 dodge for a pattern. Then I'm going to polish the stainless and put some chicken lights on it and call it good.

Wait for Philip to reply, he's got a set that came off a ford that he's going to use.

Try lookin in junk yards. I wonder if they may have been a factory option or something. Eh... I might be blowin' hot air, I was 7 when they stopped building first gens. All I know is before I bought my truck I had a line on a '93 dually I almost bought that had stainless running boards. They seemed to fit up pretty clean, as if they were vehicle specific. Anyway, if you find them on a rotted out gasser that was put in the graveyard for rust instead of wrecking, the stainless boards should still be clean. The truck I wanted was rotted pretty good but the boards looked used, but pretty clean considering.

Try one of these street truck shops. A lot of those low rider trucks have running boards. There's a shop like that around here called Ultimate Truck or something like that, they surprisingly had some stuff I couldn't find at the 4x4 shops or the diesel shops.

Try finding them for a crew cab. I wanted to replace the old ones on my 84 crew as they weren't wide enough or deep enough for my big feet. What I did was buy some used ones from, in this case, an extended cab short box ( it happened to by a Chebby ) that went wheel well to wheel well and cut them to fit my truck. I modified the old mounts but will replace them later with custom ones that mount direct to the frame for more strength. Shadrach

Don't worry about what they are supposed to fit. Go by the length of them. For a xcab truck you need 6' boards. The mounting kits are pretty much universal. They can be adapted.

I have no idea what mine were made for Michael. I just know they are long enough for my xcab. Mounts are no big deal. I'll just make my own or go with a set of ford running board mounts. The ford glass boards have a very nice mount system. :D

Thats funny! I have!

Philip,

Good advice. Just go by length and modify if needed.

Northwest Running boards has them for all frame lengths. Mine installed were just over "$300. they run from the front wheel well to the front of the rear wheel well. They aren't stainless but work good for me.
