Got the new lift pump installed this evening and noticed something odd. When I first fired the truck up after installing new pump and filter it had a miss so I cracked the line loose at each injector until the flowed nothing but fuel. After doing this the miss at idle was gone but it seens to miss and blow LOTS of black smoke from about 1/8 to 1/2 throttle with no load on engine(trans in nuetral or park). Still did it after about 2 hours and 35 miles of run time, just not as bad. I'll have to see how it runs in the morning. This is the first time I can remember it doing anything like this(not saying much, very bad case if heretitary CRS), so it may have been there as long as I've had it.

Any of you injection gurus got any ideas?

P. S. Forgot to say that the truck ran great for the 35 miles to my parents farm and back. To dark to judge smoke output. This truck has always been able to make 2 lanes of traffic disappear when flat footing it when the tempature is above 50 degrees. :D

I could be that your fuel pump is now getting the fuel it was designed to get. Your lift pump may have been weak before you turned up the pump. If it only smokes on the bottom end then you need to turn the fuel screw a little more. :D

Seems to be fixed

I believe the majority of the problem was a little air left trapped in the system. When I left for work this morning the engine missed on tip in when taking off from the driveway and a little bit from the stop sign an 1/8th mile up the road. Engine had been started and allowed to idle for 15-20 minutes before leaving, outside temp about 25 degrees F. It missed pretty good again when I left for lunch, only when I first pulled out of lot though. After work it ran perfect. Ran out to lumber yard to get my firewood trailer and towed the load back home, about 65 miles round trip. Trailer weighs about 1900 lbs and had 2 1/2 full cords of relatively green hard wood on it. Truck never missed a beat. Pulls better now too. It's also very nice to be able to start the truck cold without the large plume of black smoke and the low rough idle till the engine was run up to 1000rpm or so. One other thing I had found during the lift pump replacement was that the KSB solenoid connector was rotted away except for the plastic shell so I crimped a new end on. Hopefully the old girl won't give me any other problems so I can finnish the turbo swap next weekend.

Sorry I got so long winded.

Have a Merry Christmas and don't forget that Jesus is the reason for the season.
