My truck developed a roughness, this is all I can explain, in fact I thought it was my imagination until a friend jumped in and said something. Took it to the dealer today and thet first tried to blame it on fuel until I told them I have a sample sitting on the console and theres no sediment or water in it. Star is giving them the runaround and saying it's in the lines and had them check the bottom of the filter housing and it still comes up clean. Dealer thinks it may be a bad flywheel or maybe transmission but can't get star to commit to the repair yet. Only thing that worries me is I pulled my edge off but it still has the boost wire from the manifold and the wire off the ignition installed. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they don't void me.

machinemover,

If you developed roughness in your idle, you may have excessive buildup of carbon on your injectors. I have found that Sea Foam, found at Advance Auto, works pretty good to clear it up. I buy 2 cans at a time. I put a can in the tank with about 1/4 tank left and drive it rather aggressively until it is empty. The other can I use when I am changing fuel filters. Once I change out the filter, I refill the canister with Sea Foam, start it for about 30 sec. , shut it down and let it set for about 20 minutes then fire it up and take it for a good run.

I don't tow very often and I think that helps make my sutuation worse. Many have posted here that if you hook up a heavy load and go for a nice long drive, it seems to have the same effect.

Yeah I would think if you tow that often you should be good. Do you tow heavy? I know I try to stay away from the dealer at all costs. The good ones seem few and far between.

I took your advise and put two cans of sea foam, I figured it couldn't hurt. Dealer found nothing wrong. Star claims problem could be water in tank, which I drained a sample and shows no water. They also won't warantee dropping the tank because I put that updated fule vent in so I can fill up to the brim. When I did that I butchered the fuel lines and replaced them with standard rubber fuel line. They claim I could have caused the problem. Issue number two, they say it could be the flywheel, however star claims the flywheel is not part of the deisel engine and therefor is not covered under warantee. SURPRISE, SURPRISE!!!!. I picked up my truck and went on my way, unbelievable experience..... no wonder people get ****** with star. I am seriously thinking ford for my next truck.

Most use Power Service 16 oz with around 4 oz of MMO in it. I've been using this regularly since my second tank(45K now). I add it to the tank just befor each fill up. I always bring premix bottles while traveling with the 5th wheel. Never had any problems. Many with my year have had lift pumps problems, since mine was the last year with the LP attached to fuel filter housing.
