I was looking at the registration requirements for one of my cars and noticed on the Oregon DOT web site there is a reporting format for "Smoking Vehicles":

Oregon DEQ: Air Quality Vehicle Inspection; report smoking vehicle

So I guess if you run without the dpf in Portland (or ALL of Oregon) and you push some smoke;

Don't get your neighbor :-{} or :-{} your brother-in-law mad at you - you might end up getting a knock on the door in the middle of the night from the Man!!!

Also in Tx, when you get a new drivers Lic in the mail. (i got a new one last November) Behind the the new Lic on the paper that it is stuck to, it has "Report a Smoking Car to This Number ???-???-????"

But if it is for 10sec or more, I will just have to keep it to down to 5 sec's or so.

Here in Cali it's 1-800-EXHAUST...

Then you get a letter in the mail asking you for an inspection.

In Nevada, it's 686-SMOG (IIRC) A TDR member had that as it's license plate until it was revoked :D
