'99 24 valve auto. 100K miles. I decided to put a mechanical (Mr. Gasket 1561) fuel gauge on the outlet side of the fuel filter housing using a 1" long nipple & small Tee in the plug on top. replaced the plug to top of tee, gauge on side. Zero pressure reading (gauge is fine, I tried it on my '67 Coronet). I had to "prime" the filter canister each time I loosened one of the plugs on top. Started after a crank of 5 seconds. Tried to loosen the plug on top of the tee while running to see if There was pressure, truck stopped, had to prime again. Truck runs fine on the road & idle, even with TST power Max. ??

try this

first off welcome aboard friend, try crossing the wires to the gage or do it on the sender first, it wont hurt the gage at all, also how do you know if the sender is working, try to test it with the meter too... ... ..... good luck, Kevin

Wow you have a fine injector pump and no transfer pump . The injector is sucking the fuel to run . Do confirm the dead pump and get it replaced ASAP or the injector will burn in self out for lack of fuel cooling and lubrication . LOL Ron Bissett in LOUISVILLE KY:-{} :-{} :-{} :{

Same situation on my '99! Likely ran it at least 15000 miles or more with a dead lift pump, some of it with DDII's and my EZ. Never a stumble or anything. Got it replaced at the stealer no problem. Now I can hear it run sometimes when I turn the key to start:)

They will run with no pressure but it is insufficient to keep it lubed and cool. Im on my Third injection pump and let me tell you the lift pump is alot cheaper than an injection pump. LOL

Thanks guys!

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't realize the truck would run with the transfer pump dead. I figured a "check engine" light would come on. Heck, I made 14 passes down the dragstrip last weekend & not a faulter. I hope I didn't damage the injector pump. I took it to a dealer today, ready tomorrow, I'm $450 lighter! But still cheaper than a new injector pump! Thanks again. BTW my local dealer said he couldn't even order a pump, had to take it to anothewr dealer 30 miles away.

The stealer made you pay 450. 00?!? That's insane. You could have gotten 3 lift pumps from a cummins dealer for that!

jhamm- He's not kidding. Cummins carries the part for 140. 00 and easy enough to do yourself if you're so inclined. At least I wasn't the bearer of that bad news to you... ...
