Guy I know has an 05 six speed and last night all of a sudden it started running on 4 cylinders. Hauled it to a relatives and today it started and ran fine. He said it happened one other time too. I'm thinkin its a wiring issue but not sure if this is something someone ran into before. Thanks for any thoughts!

Injector wiring harness is where I would begin, on an 05 I believe they(cylinders) are grouped in twos and are incorporated within the valve cover gasket. 1st I would begin by unplugging, cleaning, and re-connecting the harness to each bank of cylinders, it may be that simple.

Are there any codes? The codes are specific to which cylinders are affected, so you know where to focus your attention. Here'e a list of codes form the forum header, https://www.turbodieselregister.com...ns-diagnostic-trouble-codes-dtcs-p-codes.html

First pull the codes and look for injector bank 1 or 2 misfires. Once you find thta it gets fun. It could be the ECU to VC harness the VC to injector harness, or a solenoid going bad. Anything out of the ordinary that looks like a short will shut down the hwole bank of 3 cylinders.

Easy thing to do is pull the VC top and ohm the injectors. Crefully remove the wiring form the tops of each injector and test resistance. Should be at or below . 5 ohms. Over 1 and you have found the problem.

CAREFULLY retighten the wires on top of the injector. They can break and then you need an injector or solenoid.

i believe at under 10* F the motor runs on 3 cylinders, when first starting up.

Mine did it one time and i freaked out, but about 15 minutes latter it fired on all cylinders and wen into a normal high idle.

Just the ECU splitting the injection events in response to the cold, if it wasn't a transient failure. The CR's don't' have a 3 cylinder idle unless it is broke.

The cold idle varies on trucks. Some will go into a lope condition and even shake the truck. Others will never do it. Transient conditions will cause different reactions to the ECU's idle response.

Well nothing defintie yet ohmd the harness while wiggling and nothing. Putting a injector to valve cover harness in while valve cover off and see what happens. It was 7 months ago since it did it the first time so it could be a while before we know if we fixed it or not. Thanks for the replies to point us in right direction!

How are things in Hastings this winter? My cousin Greg works for Dakota County, lives in Hastings. I was born and spent my first eleven years south of Mankato, ended up in the northwest while my Dad was hauling bombs from Gary Indiana to Bremerton Wa. Sorry for the hijack, just saying hey. Jess
