First Post Introduction

Tempurpedic Mattress?????

My Step Dad died last night. He and my Mom had been married 11 years. He was a native West Virginian and lived there most of his life. He grew up poor but happy during the Depression. Graduated Sand Fork High School and had one year of college at Glenville State. He left school to work as a pipeline welder. He later enlisted in the Army and was sent to Korea. He was awarded one Bronze Star.

After he returned to the States, he resumed pipelining until 1999. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. Since he only worked 6-8 months a year, he bought rental houses and worked on them to keep himself occupied during the winter.

His first wife died in the early 90's from cancer. He had one son, Bobby. He was very good to my Mom and left her the ability to live independently as long as she chooses. They would take his travel trailer to wherever he worked and set up camp for the summer. He worked in most of the midwestern and southeastern states of the 48. He also spent a few years on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.

He liked tractors, dachshunds and welding. He once owned a 97 3500 CTD, but I could never get him to join TDR. He'd send me a question if he had it and I'd try to find the answer for him.

He could not have treated me any better if I had been his own son. I will miss telling jokes with him, but he has gone to a better place. His last few years were spent mostly in the house. When he lost the ability to drive and go where he wanted, he was never quite as happy. A severe heart attack 20 years ago had damamged a lot of his heart muscle. He had a quad bypass in 03 and never really got his strength back.

I am going up to my Mom's this morning. No date has been set for the funeral at this time.

Sorry to hear of your loss Phil, my Dad is at that point now and could pass any day he too can no longer go outside or do anything that he once loved. It's a very sad thing to have to see but I guess a fact of life. My condolences also to you and the family.

Roy

Phil, Sorry about your dad. My mother just passed Saturday morning and I know what you are feeling. I wish you all the best and remember all the good times with him and know that he is with you.

Thanks to all of you for the support. I took Mom out for the final arrangements yesterday. He had taken care of most of everything within the last 6 months. Visitation is this evening with the service tomorrow at 11am. Supposed to be snowy here, so his wish for a short service may be a blessing. ;)

Mom is doing well, but I know the hardest time for her will come in the next few weeks and months. My sister and I are taking turns to come and help, but also allowing her enough time alone to rest.

Don't forget we are thinking about you. If you ever need anything you can find me not far from where you left that note on my truck. 804 265 8482
