The back of the cab on my '85 Toyota has the paint rubbed thru to bare metal from the rubber boot on the shell. Normally this isn't a problem because the constant friction keeps the rust at bay. However, for the last year or so the shell has been off and I have a nice rust ring around the window... . Yeah, I know - it's my fault.....

Anyhow, does anybody have a recommendation for one of the rust converter type products that also has good abrasion resistance for when the shell is back on the truck?

In the past I've used "Rust Mort" by SEM. Available at any Auto Value parts store. It seemed to work pretty well. At least, most of the parts I coated with it didn't rust any further.

Makes a very hard black shell.

I've tried one or two different ones, but wasn't impressed with any of them. When the shell is to go back on, I'd use some Slip Plate or Plow Coat (spray or brush-on graphite).
