The white paint seems to have some metal in it and every time it gets salt covered in winter there are rust spots all over that i was able to rub out last winter but they are back.

Anyone else have this problem with white?

Where is the clear coat?

Where is the clear coat?

Thats what i was saying ???Puts a Whole new meaning to metal Flake Paint :~)

You could Put a Little "Ospho" in your Truck wash water if your Tired of Rubbing the rust off!

Its sold In Most marine stores... i used it when i was shrimping to take rust stains off the boat and still use it on my Center console to Keep her looking New,its the best thing for rust i have found Short of Sand Blasting LOL

Good luck!

I do admit that it hasnt been waxed for near 8-10 months.

Didnt think wax was importand anymore with the clearcoat?

This Ospho stuff sounds interesting.

There is nothing wrong with the paint. It is metal dust from the air that has landed and imbedded in the paint. When the salt hits it you notice the rust spots. First wash the vehicle, then use Clay bar on the surface. You will probably notice the spots are only on horizontal or mostly horizontal surfaces. The clay should pull the debris from the paint and then wax it. Keeping the vehicle washed at least once a week should keep the problem at bay. If you look close at any car with the same care and exposure it will be there, but it is noticed easier on white.

i've got the same problem on mine too it is also white. But i know my clear coat is no good also, because it is starting to peel. They seem to rub out with any wax or just a little elbow grease and a rag.

As sag says, it isn't only white vehicles, you just can't see them as well on darker vehicles. I've seen them on my '03 Ram and it is Atlantic Blue Pearl.

You'll get it on the vertical surfaces as well especially during the winter if you live in an area where there is snow and they have to use the plows. The steel grinds off of the plow edges and mixes with the slush and then gets slung all over the sides of the vehicles. I'm sure there are about a hundred other places it comes from too.

My wife's white Tahoe had them all over the rear gate. It took me like 2 days on and off to get all of the rust spots off of it. The low pressure area behind the vehicle is bad about throwing crap all over the gate.

BINGO! It is REALY visible on new trucks that are delivered using the Rail system.

For removing mineral (Iron & manganese) stains from glass ware in our lab at work we use 50% vinegar & 50% hydrogen peroxide.

Have not tried this solution on paint.

Like Sag2 says

Use clay bar... ..... this brown spotting is on Top of the clearcoat..... It will appear on plastic areas also. Clat bar will remove it all , then wax... ... . it will take some time though:)

Seems to be much worse since they started spraying liquid calcium instead of straight road salt.

Have had this problem with a white car I own... ... ... White is the worst colour to show up on

Steve

Most likely it is rail rust from transporting it. I've seen it me here in Utah. My truck had it. If you talk to the dealership they MAY buff it out for you. If not, I'd find a good detailer and have it done there. Nothing wrong with a good spring detailing!

Buffing it just seals the rust particles in. You must clay the truck first, then buff and polish.
