Rust proofing / Undercoating Dealers

I’m looking for input on rust proofing / undercoating a new truck. I have a 2005 on order and I’m wondering should I get the dealer applied stuff or go with an aftermarket company like Ziebart. Can anybody recommend a Ziebart dealer in southeastern Michigan that they were happy or unhappy with? Any other input is appreciated.

Thanks.

I had mine done at the Ziebarts on Gratiot, I noticed that some of it is chipping off. There is probably something better.

I plan to bring it back to them and see it they will fix it.

I don't know if the Rhino liner guy in P. H. does it. He did my bed and seem pretty concietious.

Rustproofing a new vehicle is unnecessary. I dont know about your truck but mine was undercoated from the factory. If that ever wears off I may have it rhino lined underneith.

I don't know if it will come under coated from the factory, I haven't gotten it yet. Also has anyone had problems with their speakers or power switches being sprayed with under coating.

Thanks

I bought my 2003 Ram from a dealer over 600 miles away. Made the complete deal on the phone. I instructed the dealer to have my truck shot by Ziebart, which was done.

When I arrived to pick up my Ram, everything was in place for a quick turnaround except for the Ziebart. It was a sloppy job, product runs on the white paint, runs on the bottom side of the hood, lots of places missed under the truck. The dealer said they would take it back to Ziebart for correction of the problems. I did not have the time to wait an extra day or so. The Ziebart dealer would not adjust the cost, just a re shoot. So if you have your truck Ziebart'ed look it over really good before you leave.

Screw having someone do the work. They will just mess it up. Get a quart of 3M rustfighter I and the wand that goes with it. You will need a 3m style shultz spray gun. Use it on the inner fenders, bottoms of inner doors, inner rocker panels, sprays like water drys to beeswax.

For under the car, get a quart of the 3m undercoating, using the same gun just start spraying!

In a few hours your done... .

You might consider "Rust-check. " Its a oil based product I think. It doesn't leave the black tarry residue all over, but it still seems to protect well. You buy the first year, and then they retouch it the second year for free. I haven't used it on my truck, but I did use it on my Impala when it was my daily driver, and no rust popped anywhere after 2 Indiana winters.

Look for a local shop that will spray it with Cosmoline (sp?).

I have every vehicle I buy done. Dosen't dry out ant peel like

Ziebart or the dealer stuff... . BUT... . it is MESSY to work on...

even years later.

My wifes 2000 Durango has zero rust after 5 years of PA winters

and salted roads.

Thanks for the replies.

Cosmoline sounds interesting. I know it's used on guns, but have not heard of anyone spraying it on vehicles.
