Has anyone experienced rusting in the lower door panels. Mine have rusted away the inner lip of the door skin and is starting to rust the rest of the bottom door? The body shops say they have never seen this. Is there a recall?

Pretty common - a few have been repaired under warranty - salt/cold country owners have to really keep on top of rust at lower door edges by various oily or similar anti-rust treatments...

I've not heard of a recall on this. I think it is more common than we might think.

Mine started rusting already and it's several years younger than yours. Read about adding a few squirts of oil (new or used) to the drain holes in the bottom of the door every 3 months or so. Is messy for a day or so as it drips out, but it really coats the inside of the door bottom edge and works its way into the metal seams. Appears to be the trick that has stopped the rusting for me.

I remember something about Debris collecting in the bottom of the door wells that close off the VERY small drainage slits. The slits easily become blocked due to their size.

To late for my truck the door has already lost a small piece of paint and is getting worse by the month. I will have to do some thing long before I want to. This sucks!!!!!

Hey guys thought i would chime in on this one as i to had the same rust problem on the bottom of the doors, mine is the right rear quad door, with absolutely no sign of rust on the left door(weird).

Anyways i ordered POR15 and i finally got it applied and it seems to be doing the trick only time will tell as to whether the rust comes through on the outer bottom lip of the door. I had never used this before and researched alot before buying anything, and with some added help from several members here at TDR I purchased the POR15.

I must say the stuff sets up really nice and if you follow the directions you can't go wrong, the only advice i can give you is to buy several more small paint brushes(I think there was a 2 on the brush that came with mine) because when this stuff decided to set its like a rock.

I ordered the starter kit and i have plenty left to take care of any rust that might pop up. .

I have some rust on my right cab corner, and left rocker panel. It looked like a stone chip gone bad. I sanded and ground everything down do bare metal, used self etching primer, and painted the whole bottom from moulding down. 3 months later, its back. I'm gonna try por-15. After you apply it, do you sand it with 1200grit or so to finish coat over it?

Hope that stuff works, I only wanna do this one more time

My 2001 has rust forming on the driver's door... but that is probably due to using at as plow truck in salt country. When I get the time I plan to sand it all down to metal, prime it and paint it, then get some roll-on bed liner and do everything under the body moulding about 6 or 8" from the bottom of the rocker panel down. I think that will do the trick.

Len (owner of the site and a New Jersey shop) is a good guy who gives straight talk and the best products he can find. The rust converter and followup coating stuff work.

As you'll find out, rust is like mold or cancer - just removing what you can see won't stop it coming back.
