Need your advice...

All,
Need some advice. I'm wondering if it is worth my time to rustproof my Y2K. I have no idea how the Dodge trucks stand up to moisture or the chemicals if you live up North. No snow where I live but lots of humidity. There is a Ziebart place down the road that started me thinking. Any of you have experience with this subject? I'm also wondering if the undercoat would provide some sound damping.
thanks, guys.

Craig:

I've got a close friend who owns a body shop and he is top notch. He told me he's never seen one of the 2nd generation rams rust. Of course we aren't in a heavy snow area. With that said, I had Ziebart rustproof and undercoat mine anyway. They did a nice job.

They do and they don't rust. This is my second '94 both used. The first one had the full Zeibart treatment. The second, nothing. The frame is coated with rust on this one (the Z treated was a nice black). The doors rusted out last year. The underside of the body parts are holding up quite well compared to the old stuff I have. I would do it on a new truck. My fiancee just bought a new Dakota and is getting it done.
They will try to sell you sound deadening. It is an extra 3 coats (5 vs 2) of rustproofing on the bottom of the cab. Borrow a db meter and tell them you will pay for it if it makes a difference #ad
(probably not on a diesel). I used to sell rustproofing at a dealership years ago. You wouldn't believe the mark up.
If you do it, DO NOT neglect the "check ups". Most people do and it is their way to bail out on the warrantee.
