I have recently begun driving a different vhicle for every day driving and my 2001 Dodge, 2500 4X4 has been sitting most of the time. It has taken me about 7 weeks to go through a tank of fuel.
Problem: When I removed the fuel cap prior to fueling, there was "rusty" water around the seal of the cap and the edge of the tank fuel neck. However, the tank fuel neck was not rusting, it just had rusty looking water on it. When I released the cap to begin fueling my truck, a watery, rusty solution poured from the cap (more than several drops). Obviously, something in the cap is rusting! The white platic center on the inside of the fuel cap is now brown in color. I have had this truck one and a half years and have never seen this before.
Can anyone tell me if they have had a similar situation and what I might do about it. Does anyone know what is causing it?
Your help will be appreciated!
