Can anyone suggest a good 18'-20' awning for an RV? I've got a 22' enclosed cargo trailer, I am going to add an awning to this year. Just wondered if anyone had an opinion on it.

Thanks,

Dave

P. S. It sure will be nice traveling in style this year. My quad cab, 6 speed is going to spoil me:)

The 2 big names in RV awnings (excluding high $$$ electric jobs!) are A&E and Carefree of Colorado. I've had both - an A&E on our previous 5ver and a Carefree main awning plus slideout toppers on our current 5ver.

6 of one and a half dozen of the other, as far as I'm concerned. Neither have given me any problems.

Go to Camping world and get a catalog sent to you. This time of year they start having $1 shipping deals (in fact there is one going on right now, info is on there website).

You can buy a presidential membership for around $14. 00 which gets you an additional 10% off. (you will cover this in the savings in the awning price)

Those big awnings ship yellow freight so the $1 shipping will save you over $20. 00 more dollars. you might have to meet the truck somewhere, or pick it up at there local depot.

We have an 18 ft. A&E on our '88 5er - had it since new and it still is like new. Would certainly replace it with the same if it is ever needed.

We have had 2 A&E's - 1 10' and 1 16' - No problems with either one. My Dad has a 22' A&E and the latches kept stripping out and opening while driving down the road. I think the longer the awning the more trouble you will have. Mom has a Carefree that never gets used so it still is working great after 5 years.

Camping World shipped our replacement fabric for the 16' directly to our house for the $1 deal.

As a suggestion to all awning purchases, be sure to get the "awning saver" as this is a good protection for the awning when rolled up. This is a cover built into the awning that protects the awning against the elements on the rolled surface when it is up. A good investment.

Thanks!

Thanks for all of the replys so far. I still haven't purchased one, but hopefully soon.

My local RV dealers will install one for me, for about $800. This includes everything.

My only hangup right now is the color. I keep finding these rainbow colored ones. Do they not make a solide color one?

Thanks,

Dave

With an awning that long you may want to consider a center support. Mine is 20-21 feet and when I bought it I noticed that it sagged in the middle. Looked like a banana. I've seen others that long going down the road and they have a little bounce to them, this can't be good for the awning.

When I bought my RV last year the dealer strongly recomended a center support and it also helps when it is rolled out and when it rains just as long as you lower one end

with a helper, you can install it yourself. directions should be in the box. I did 2 slide out covers on my 5er (1 was 14 foot long). In fact I did them myself using a coat hanger hanging off the roof rack to help me hold it up. (next time I will get help :) )
