RV Bathroom tissue

How important is it that we use the recommended rv tissue and why. I was told once that it was because it breaks down faster and therefore doesn't foul up whatever the workings are in the tank. Does anybody have any negative experiences in using regular tissue or is there a regular tissue that works better than others??

Regular paper will not break down in your holding tank. It will clog up in there and damage your sensors. I haven't experienced this myself but a friend of mine has his own rv service and he warned me not to do it. Also the repairman where I bought mine told me a horror story about someone that did. Best stick with the camping paper!

I always used standard tissue paper on the roll, I have read where people take a sample of both camping and regular, put it in a jar with water and some chem you use in your black tank, shake it up and wait a day or so, they both look the same.



Then I got my new Terry, the first time out the girls clogged the line below the "can" that leads to the black tank with paper, after I got that mess out I switched to camping paper and have not had a problem since.



Who knows the answer, but it gives me an accuse to go to Walmart.

We've always used standard TP with no problems, including when we lived in the camper for 6 months.

We have been using regular SCOTT paper for about 7 years with no problems. In the last two months I noticed when I flushed the black tank I was getting tp that hadn't dissolved. this had never happened before. the last time out I hadn't dumped in 4 days and when I opened the black valve Nothing. I canceled the rest of the trip and came home prepared for a dirty job, but the trip home shook it loose. I dumped it in my garden and it was solid undissolved tp.

Idid the test with a sheet of tp in a glass of water. After an hour you could still pick up the sheet by one corner and it wouln't tear. I bought some RV tp from Walmart and repeated the test. After 5 minutes soaking in plain water you could not pick it up cause it would tear. I'm convinced,no more regular tp in my rig. A full black tank you can't dump ain't funny.

We've used regular TP for the last 2 years and over 70 nights in the trailer. I do always dump as soon as the trip is over and always make sure I fill the tank with water before dumping to get a good "flush. " I also have a Quickie Flush installed and run it for several minutes to clean out the tank. So far, no problems.

RV paper all the way. Ain't now way I'm cleaning out the poooooo tank after a big pot of Moma's beans and cornbread Just watch the fingers you'ld hate to have a poke through with that single ply paper. :{

Just a marketing scheme to sell "RV toilet paper". If your black system has complicated plumbing, stick to a soft single ply. There is nothing in any tissue except wood fiber and coloring (some perfume too), no matter what kind it is. The only difference is the plys, thickness, fiber length and color. It's a balance against softness (short fibers, low density) and strength (long fibers, higher density). The best paper for RV use is soft and weak. Charmin single ply (if they made it) would break up in your tank real fast but wouldn't hold up to the initial rectal application. TP is just TP no matter what the label says. Buy as cheap, weak and thin as you butt can stand.

I tend to agree with the regular TP use. 5 years full time with no clogs - any TP OK for septic systems should be OK for an RV if you use a little extra water. I always run a little extra water into the toilet before I sit down. Women (and kids) tend to use more TP -I just told my fiance to flush until all the TP is gone down.

I also put a few gallons in the tank after dumping.

After using RV paper for years I decided to try the water in glass shakem up test. Guess what the "white Cloud" tp at walmarts actually disolved faster than the Thetford single ply! Try it!

If you ever have a problem w/ paper sticking to sensors, or causing a problem, just pour about 3 or 4 bags of crushed ice down the hole (turn the pump off so the water doesnt melt it on the way down). Pour it very slowly & make sure there arent any peices too big to get stuck & stop you from dropping all of it in. If one gets stuck it kinda screws up the attempt.



While you drive it'll scrub the tank clean, then melt.



We had a problem one time using 2 ply and and after driving home giving it the ice scrub treatment, we havent had a problem since, and use the GOOD paper. Hey your ... deserves it.



Now about every other time we leave to head home I drop 3 or 4 bags in, and it seems to keep things the way we like...

I did the jar test and the paper we use at home broke down faster and smaller than the RV type. But it may depend on the type you use. We use Northern.
