5th wheel suspension mod

My tow rig

Looking for recommendations on a good quality 12V RV battery for my 27' TT. I have a friend who is very interested in purchasing the unit but I have to replace the battery. Thanks in advance.

Interstate is what Id use. . get a good Deep cycle battery. .

Better yet is if you have the room, get 2, 6-volt Interstate Golf Cart Batteries. . These last longer and don't drain as much. . you tie them in series and then hook them up as one. . I have 4 of these in my 5th wheel. . works great. . If your friend is as good as he is, he will love it. !

I second Bignasty. I have 2 sizes and would like to add 4 more for extra reserve. ( or 2 4D 12 volts ) They one down side to 2 sixes vs 2 twelves is if 1 battery dies ( rare ) you're hooped because 1 six is useless. If you have 2 twelves and one dies you still have some useable power. Shadrach

I'm on my sixth season with dual Interstate SRM-29's, about $100 each. I don't believe anyone can answer what is best without knowing what you are willing to spend ?

Thanks for the replies. I had two Trojan 6V before but they kept dying on me every year. I'd keep physically checking them every time I went up to the lake; disconnect everything before I left; recharge them, etc. Never seemed to hold up.

One of the guy's at work had the same problem with the Trojan 6v he thought that if he charged thru the wall elect. at home a couple of days before use that would be enough. I have allways used Battery Tender and have had no problems. Mybe Im lucky but he bought a tender and have had no problems.

BIGNASTY, I would charge them up once a month as well. I'd remove them and bring them back home and give them a good charge. Never seemed to work. Next time I'll buy a Battery Tender for any deep cycle battery I have. I'm using a BT Jr on my Harley battery and it has worked very well for the past three years.

Been Lucky on my 4 Interstate 6 volts. . been over 4 years and I have 200 Watts of Solar Panels which puts out 7-8 amps charge. . The batteries always stay charged that way. When I plug in just before a trip it don't take long to top them up on the converter so it helps to keep them close to full

A battery tender combined with a pulse generator feature is the way to go. Pulsed charges desulfate the battery plates, increases life of battery, allows for more complete charge and can be left permanently connected. Just plug into shore line when unit is stored or if in camping mode in a campground with power hook ups. this is what I do and am going on 5 years now with same 12V battery. The military has been using now for years with a solar plate power source on all their stored equipment.

Big: Here is a link to the product I use. Welcome to PulseTech - the leaders in battery performance technology! PulseTech makes the best quality for the lowest price. you can buy various versions. On my truck I use the PulsePower one that actually uses the power from the battery itself to desulfate the battery. It comes with velcro tape and I just attached it to the top of the battery. It is working on BOTH batteries ALL the time... draws minimal minute power. That one is NOT a charger. I bought another one for the camper that I mentioned above in my last post. This one also desulfates the battery (conditions it) and also trickle charges it. This one is powered by AC and you need to plug it in. This one is great for long term storage. They also have solar powered panel ones that trickle charge and desulfate together. That might cost around $100 or so depending on how many watt solar panel you opt for. I paid $60 for the AC one and I can't remember what I paid for the other stand alone one. I am very very happy with both of them as they have paid for themselves over and over by my not having to buy batteries all the time. PS: If you do buy these. Do NOT leave them connected if you are jumping a battery with jumper cables. They all come with quik disconnect plugs... use them... otherwise you will fry the delicate circuitry... :{ I know from past experience.
Good luck!
