RV Camping

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good places to camp within Arizona that's between approximately 4000-6000' elevation. I typically camp around the Happy Jack area but that's about 7500' and this time of the year is around 20 degrees at night to about 50 degrees during the day. Although I'll camp in the snow, we're taking 2 other families with small kids. I'm looking for some place that hits around 60-65 during the day. Nighttime temperature isn't very important.



If you have any suggestions regarding additional newsgroups I could post this question it would be appreciated. I'm looking to stay away from an RV park as I'm fully self-contained and prefer to camp away from everyone. Oh yeah, in addition to my '01 Ram 3500 and my 30' trailer, there will be 2 Class C's with me so it can't be too remote of a location because of the Class C's ground clearance.

Gilbert, isn't that up by Globe? I like the Apache Trial by the Superstition Mountians. It is beautiful there. I like the trail when it winds down to the floor. Have a good time camping.

I'm about 40 minutes west of Globe. Gilbert is actually considered the East Valley. . . between Mesa, Chandler, and Apache Junction.

I like the area off Table Mesa Road near Black Canyon City. You can go west on that road as far as you can get the motor homes to go. It's a real nice area, but don't go near the working gold mines.

This is a state campground but one of our very favorites. Its Dead Horse campground in Cottonwood Ariz which is just south of Sedona at about 3500ft and wonderful this time of year. Water and elect hookups with dump station by entrance. They have an overflow area that is seperate from the rest that is a gravel are with nothing but a place to park and is almost always deserted but hiking starts right there.

Thanks for everyone's input. I just purchased a GPS waypoint book which also has elevations. I'm going to attempt to find a place from that. The primary thing I'm looking for is a place to camp that *doesn't* have hookups. I'm not one for cramming myself in a RV park and waking up to the sound of the barking dog that just relieved himself on my tire. I prefer to be out by myself which is why I purchased an RV that has a 126 gallon fresh water tank, installed golf cart batteries, and have a fuel tank built into the RV that can run the generator for up to 100 hours if necessary... also have satellite for the mornings when I'm cooking breakfast and want to catch up on the news. Most importantly, when myself and the family are sitting around the campfire at night the only sound is the sound of wild animals and the only light is the light from the campfire and stars...

Sonoita and the Chirichaua's SE of Tucson, Beautiful rolling country and incredible mountains. Lots of places to go and you can return to lower elevations.



North of Prescott, Walnut Canyon. Antelope, Coyotes howling, great country.



NE of Payson, below the rim, Pleasant Valley to Tonto Creek and the old Dude Fire area. There are TONS of bears here now. (Because of the Rodeo-Chedeski 490,000 acre fire)

My favorite place to camp in AZ this time of year is Cibique Creek near Chrysotile, just a few miles north of where Hwy ?? crosses the Salt River. Very rustic, no hookups, no people, not even a picnic bench, just a flat area next to a dirt road no one uses. Lots of cold weather camping along this road. Picture here
