Companion 5th wheel hitch...2006 Dodge Mega Cab 3500 DRW

I'm posting this bulletin from RV Consumer Group as a benefit to all owners of RV's. Here's your chance to voice your opinion about your own 5th wheel, TT of Truck Camper, good or bad. RV Consumer Group Survey

I'm not trying to drum up business for them since I have no interest in the company. I am happy, however, with their guide and I feel it helped me in making a sound decision in the purchase on my 5th Wheel.

gtoli and Jim W, your two cents are very valuable to them. I also gave them my two cents on my Arctic Fox, which is very good.

As you know, I can look up a 5th Wheel, TT or truck camper for you in my copy of the RV Consumer Guide. My guide covers up to 2010.

I gave them my thoughts, decent marks for my trailer but let them know how bad the sales side of the dealer sucked.

Filled report out to let people know how happy i'am with my artic fox!Oo. I maid my mind up to get a artic fox bye allmost 99. 9% good reviews on TDR fourm. THANKS GRIZZLY.

timroberts and RVTRKN,

Arctic Fox and Nash make a good trailer and they are far more reasonably priced than other brands with the same star rating. That's why I purchased one. Also AF was strongly recommended by a TDR member who's opinion I highly trusted, Ken Lenger. He left TDR some 3 years ago.

The only thing I have against Northwood Mfg is the fact that they are still installing China ST tires on all trailers. I couldn't talk them out of it when I ordered my AF. It just doesn't make sense that they build such a high quality trailer and put those cheap China tires on them.

Thanks for the link Griz.
I, too, tossed in a mil's worth of input that included the China ST tires as the only serious hit on our otherwise outstanding Arctic Fox. When you add up all four tires load capacity of 7,280 (4 x 1,820) and compare it to the GVW 8,000 of the trailer, there is no reserve at all. This makes weighing the axles and the tongue critical, especially when Ms. Johnson loads like Lucy in the Long, Long Trailer. All other aspects were near perfect. Our dealer got a great rating, too.

Don't forget to delete the 1500 lbs of pin weight, or so, from the 8000 lbs of GVWR. That should put you in a safe weight assuming that you have the tires inflated to the recommended maximum.

Our 25S travel trailer (nope, wifey didn't want a fiver) has a dry scale reading of 535# at the tongue with a total dry weight of 5380#. Tongue is just shy of 10% when dry. How things measure up when loaded still needs to be determined, which is why I need to make a run to the scales once we get it loaded as we intend to travel (generally long distances and heavy). The way the trailer is laid out I believe a larger percentage of added weight will be transferred to the tongue and keep things well within safety specs (unlike a couple of trailers we had in the past). All I know is it pulls really sweet with full water, propane, and minimal supplies; might even have to let out a link or two on the load bars.

Oops, my mistake. I should have looked up your trailer model number on my brochure since your signature didn't say TT or 5er. If I'm reading my brochure correctly, you have LR "C". Perhaps you can go to a higher LR, like "D" or "E".

Pulling an Arctic Fox 25S with a 2500 will put a smile on your face. We had a 07 towed with a Lariat F-150 before deciding to go full time. The F-150 did fairly well.

Yep. Been looking at D or E. We'd have to up-size from a 205 to a 215 or 225. Not sure if there is sufficient clearance for the 225's though. Any suggestions as to USA brands. Michelin is my brand of choice, but ST tires in the size I need are few to be found. (Will accept Canadian manufacture, too) I have used LTs on some of our previous trailers in the distant past and was chastised by some tire shops for doing so. Hey, I never had any problems...

With a little over 200 miles on the trailer the wife and I already have BIG smiles :D:D on our faces. It tows soooo well. Can't wait for the big trip this summer/fall. Just have to figure out where we haven't been and go there.
