I recently returned from a trip and incurred some damage to my RV from a low limb in a state park. I will file a claim with the State, but seeing as they are out of money, I expect a long battle and an unhappy ending.

I checked with my insurance company and found out that my auto insurance policy only covers me for any damage done to others property by my RV. So now I need to think seriously about insurance to cover damage to my RV. I have an 3 Mil umbrella insurance policy to cover me for any liability above my regular insurance, but no direct policy on my RV.

What do you carry on your RV in the way of insurance?

Dean

Well your 3 million umbrella coverage is for liability only... . I own several trucks, cars, and my agent (Farmers) covers my 5er for no cost to me... . but we do have comp and collision on all the vehicles... . maybe that's the difference..... it does have the same deductible as the cars and trucks... ($1000. 00) we just had some damage to the roof, from a tree along a side street... . we found that the repair was covered, but found the cost was only about $350. 00 to have it repaired... so I just had it done and paid for it...

I can't tell you if I'm extended any kind of courtesy from my agent/company... . We own several rental homes, several cars/trucks and he insures them all and has for 30 years... .

However he doesn't cover my motorcycle's and 4 track... . that's with a specialized carrier... .

Hope this helps.

I contacted Diversified Insurance Management for my insurance on the rv. Mine is not tied to the truck, these folks deal in rv only insurance which most companies don't do. I was amazed at how many companies will not write a policy unless you have a vehicle insured with them as well. My underwriter is Progressive County Mutual Ins. Company. Been running me just under a $100 a month and what I have is pretty much what is required but I increased the personal effects part due to me being a fultimer.

Something to keep in mind is that most insurance companies will consider you a full timer if you use the rv more than six months per year and it will cost you more if you are a full timer. I kind of fibbed a little on that six month thing, lol. What I like about mine is the deductible for comp and collision is $375 and with the disappearing deductible thing I am at no deductible now after seven years with no claims. Not sure if Diversified can help you or not but there number is 972-596-5419.

I have a State Farm RV policy for my 5er. It is a seperate policy but I do have the house and my wife's car along with the Dodge truck with them also.

I know its a little late but Good Sams Insurance could have helped you, with there VIP policy. I have Gieco and they write RV insurance, which in my opinion was better then Good Sams GM coverage total overall, Comp,Collision, etc.

But I think the unit has to be under 10 years old.

What year is yours?

I have State Farm for everything. The policy on the trailer covers everything such as what you had, collision, tree falls on it,fire & thief etc. If I hit someone it falls under the truck as long as it is attached to the truck. Everything inside the RV such as clothes, pots & pans or any items you bring from the house falls under homeowners insurance. I know this as Monday the wife & I just went through all our insurance policy's with our agent. We do this once a year as sometimes there are changes in coverage.

I have State Farm insurance on my Hitchhiker, reasonable cost, full coverage, $100 deductable. Have had two claims in the last 12 years, both paid more than I expected and without any hassles.

I checked with my State Farm agent on RV insurance. With a $500 deductible on a 2006 31 ft Alfa See-Ya (MSRP $59,300) the annual premium is $210. 00. With a $1000 deductible, the premium is $159. They give no multi-policy discount on RV's. They will replace the RV if it is totaled, up to the amount of the original MSRP. Can't beat that, I feel.

Through Poliseek.com, coverage on a trailer valued at $30,000, with a $500 deductible, the annual premium was $237. 00. Their actual insurance company was Progressive.

GMAC was $344 per year.

Good Sam was $408. 00 per year.

I did not check Gieco.

I believe I will go with State Farm.

Thanks for all your replies,

Dean

Progressive offered me the best coverage that I wanted. Price is good as well. Even though I have a truck camper they will still pay for towing and road service if truck fails. (which we know on't happen:))
