Looking for an car/equipment trailer

Laredo 25RL 5th-wheel?

I'm thinking of purchasing an RV but really don't know all that much about them. I'm looking for something to park on my land up north and use on weekends and vacations. I think a travel trailer would be better for me as opposed to a 5er, seeing as I won't tow it that much and they seem more roomy. What are the brands to stay away from? Also, any other tidbits of information or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks guys.

Check out irv2.com. Lots of knowlegable RV's there that can help. Quite a few form the TDR are known to frequent the place.

Also, check out the link in my sig on towing weights.

Since you won't be moving the rig a lot the most important things to consider are probably: Does it have the room/ equipment that you want/need? Is there evidence of any previous damage from water leaks (rain, snow). Trailers with front and rear wrap around caps are less prone to leaks at those points. Trailers with one piece roofing that laps over the edges ( the seams are not on the top) are less apt to leak. They all have seams with some type of sealant that still has to be inspected frequently to prevent leaks. A 10 gal. hot water heater is preferred over the std. 6 gal. A hot water heater with gas and elect. heating capability is preferred. You probably won't need much AC up there but you might find an AC unit with the 1000 watt strip heaters invaluable. I have found from experience that the aluminum frame with aluminum skin trailers are very hard to keep warm in the winter. !6" tires are a must if you tow much. They are producing some units nowdays that they say are four season insulated. I think the foam insulation is better than matt but most are still using matt. Gelcoat sides are preferred over filon. Just my . 02 cents worth.
