Short bed & 5th wheel

6220 john deere

i,ve thought about this alot. if i have 6 guys splitting 3 rooms at a motel at 70 bucks a night, for 4 days a week, is the cost of a motorcoach really so out of the question? will a nice coach really improve on the quality of the on road living? i think so, the same bed to sleep in every night , in imho, would make a more relaxing workweek. the main question that ihave would be no hookups and elects, at most of our worksites. just the grill going and the canopy would be a major improvement over most of the places we stay at now. upside? downside?

Motel Beds

Maybe I'm screwed up here but... . Ever watch those cop shows where they look in a room for blood and semen with Luminol and a black light??? I can only imagine in a sick dream what a friggin' garden variety motel room would look like if tested   They only change the sheets and not the blanket and bed spread with each customer. I'm not a clean freak by any means... I just don't like sleeping in a "USED" bed. . if you know what I mean...

I used to travel the state inspecting bridges. We had a good motel in each county we liked to stay at. We were federally funded, but had a limit of $50 per night to spend on a room. We each got our own room which was nice to have our own space at the end of the day. We weighed the same question of getting something to camp in during the summer months. 3 out of 4 of us liked the idea. The fourth didn't. There were only 2 on the road at a time, so it wouldn't need to be big. The fourth had to have his TV every night and was soo big he knew he wouldn't fit in an RV shower. I didn't want to camp out with him anyway. We figured we could pay for the RV in a couple years saving on motel costs. We cooked out at the motels anyways, so food savings wasn't an issue.

I personally would stay in a rv anytime compared to a motel. For elect. use a generator. You can pack the water in if needed and either dump or pump into the fresh water tank. The only obstacle is the Black water tank and possibly the gray. The options there are to find a site to dump the tanks periodically or use the totes that camping places sell to haul it out. Since we have had the 5th wheel we have never stayed at a motel. Like you said I sleep in my own bed, I cook my own meals from my own refrigerator, I can have breakfast in the morning and never leave my room. My vote is go for it. You could try renting the rv for one session and see how it works out.

he is right, but how does your crew get along in tight quarters? they just might do each other in, in the motor home, they need space. choose a good motel, not a cheapy

just my penny's worth.

I sure agree with the "used bed situation". It is great being able to sleep in that same KNOWN bed every night but another issue comes high on our list also. I do NOT have to pack and unpack cloths and etc. at every change of location. Its so dang nice not to have to take suit cases or duffel bags or whatever you pack your cloths in, in and out. There already in the closet and drawers and ready for usage. No hotel/motel lobbys either.

If you did go in and purchase a good used or relatively new trlr but not a new one, when this all came to a hault you could sell it and get at least some of your rent reciepts back. Just my thoughts (I hate motels/hotels, $20. 00 or $200. 00).

What are you gonna do if one of your guys decides to bring a babe home for the night?

I have a trailer because I don't like sleeping in a bed that a thousand other couples have been in.

The sleeping arrangements in the Class A units are usually a main BR in the rear and some kind of pullout sofa or drop down dinette table or both. Who sleeps in the bed?

I really enjoy sleeping in the 5er with the little lady and maybe the kids on occasion, but to sleep in an RV with 5 other guys?

No way.

I agree. I have a nice 5er for the wife and kid. I also do a lot of camping where my club is building motorcycle trails. In my last camper at times we had 6 guys sleeping in it. I was always worried about them screwing it up, then one guy wants to sleep with the windows open, etc, etc. When I got the new one the club asked "how many does that sleep" I answered "3, and there all related to me".

Since then I bought a pickup camper for when I go to build trail. It sleeps 2, if the other person is under 5' tall ;)

Four or five guys, no trailer or motorhome is going to have enough capacity in the holding tanks for EVERYONE to get a shower in the same day, let alone the same hour. You'll be hauling water everyday, unless you can park by a creek or river, fresh water intake hose placed upstream, grey water discharge downstream. :D (Just kidding!!!)

TWO trailers and careful planning ahead to locate campsites with hookups might be the best answer.

If'n he ain't sharin', they's gonna be out in the pickup truck, not rockin' the camper ! :D :D :D

That's a lot of guys in a small space .

And a long line for the bathroom in the morning

My 22' Airstream is barely big enough for me anymore . Oo.

Even in a nice motorcoach, 6 guys sounds like a lot. A motorcoach will have it's own generator, so electricity wouldn't be a problem. Water and sewage would be a problem, even with the larger tanks found on the nice coachs, you'd run out of capacity pretty quick if you weren't able to fill up and dump every day or two. And I'd think you'd have to know each other real well and be quite confident you'd get along to even consider it.

6 guys?? Thats just too many bodies. We have a 30 ft. motorhome and the few times we had another couple go with us, after a few days, it was just plain crowded and uncomfortable, of course we liike our space. .

We won't stay in motels unless we just HAVE too. We tow our Jeep (CJ-7 or Gr Cherokee) and take the motorhome everywhere when on vacation.
