I pulled the plug on my anti-lock system soon after I bought my used truck many years ago. Whenever I really needed it it would fail requiring me to change my braking technique in the middle of an emergency.

By fail I mean when applying the binders on dry pavement the amber anti-lock lamp came on and the rear of the truck started doing a 180.

But my mechanic is now trying to fix it. Do any of you have any leg-ups on where to look first?

Also I am curious how many of you are running with the RWAL plug diconnected. Thanks for the help.

1990(140,000 miles), 3. 54 gears, W250 5spd(replaced on guarantee), new head gasket at 98,000 miles, Reunel winch bumper, extra front and rear leaves, K&M air filter, Stanadyne fuel filter and Performance Formula Fuel Conditioner, Borgeson steering assembly with GMC gear box to stiffen the steering, RWAL disconnected, balanced drive shafts fore and aft, passenger-side rubber mat loose to mop up the water that leaks into the cab, CB and 2 meters(KB7VEJ), above the cab aluminum canopy with kayak/canoe rack. It’s a keeper.

A friend had an early '91 (mfr'd late '90, no intercooler) that went to the dealer lots of times for the light coming on. Typical dealer-reset light until bumber to bumber warranty ran out ( 8 months of service), "suddenly" the fix cost $500. 00. He "shined" that dealer on. It turned out the problem had to do with a poor connector seal at the rear-end allowing water in.

So you might check the malfunction code stored in the system memory and see if it indicates an open or shorted condition in a circuit. Cleaning all the underbody connections (at the Antilock valve, toward the rear of the truck mounted on the frame as well as the sensor on the differential housing) could very possibly solve the problem Dodge evidently improved the connector (the newer models do not seem to have this problem as much) and stresses in the '93 service manual to ensure the connector seals are in good condition and properly connected.
