well, i did it... installed boost and pyro gauges and a JVD Torque Enhancer fueling/boost box. Let me say first that the JVD is an awesome box #ad
it really wakes that cummins up, i really didn't realize just how lazy our trucks are before modifying! now some questions... first my pyro (dipricol) seems to be very dynamic, is this usual? what about max EGT, i know that the magic # is 1300*F, but with the JVD on 50% fueling and boost hitting 42psi the EGT's climb very quickly and have pinned the guage at 1500 on high acceleration. are EGT allowed to have brief high temp peaks or is the magic number for sustained temps?

yes, my clutch slips on 50% as well, has anyone ever broken u-joints and the such though? i am afraid that the stock clutch will be replaced soon!!

anyhow, i have been running around with the JVD set on 20% and it is awesome... guess i really can't use hi till i get a clutch #ad

Congratulations Jeremy on becoming a BOMBer...

Sounds like the JVD works pretty well. As far as a dynamic pyro gauge, my DiPricol pyro guage is the same way. I haven't towed with my setup yet but just running empty and hot rodding around, I haven't been able to hit 1500 yet. I contribute that to the Psychotty and open exhaust. They work excellent together. These will probably have to be your next BOMBing upgrades. Sounds like you off to a great start.

We are going to have to get together sometime soon to compare BOMBing notes.

Happy Holidays...

jkern,

I have the SPA gauges and I usually peak my EGT's at about 1500 on a daily bases #ad
Oh what a feeling #ad
. Just can't resist spanking those PSD's #ad
#ad
#ad
. I kinda have a feeling you'll be installing a new clutch soon #ad
. When I pull my 15,000lb 5er I hold my EGT's at 1350. No liquid silver stuff coming out of the tail pipe yet #ad
. It's my understanding that you can peak at pretty high EGT's but only for a few seconds.

well, i guess my signature doesn't say it, but i do have a straight piped 3" exhaust, and i did modify the stock air box a bit. but i do have about 2/3 of the radiator blocked with cardboard so that it will warm up. the high temps here have only been in the teens for three weeks, could this also have an effect on egt's? How long can one run the egt's on the high side, just a few seconds, or longer, or is this really not advised at all.

the more i play with the JVD box, the more i like it... it starts adding fuel at 2 PSI of boost, so it really works well across the entire RPM range. with the LSD and the big tires, my clutch slips badly though... any suggestions on clutches without spending a fortune???

JKern, take a look at the Centerforce
Clutchs. They have a heck of a good line of clutches, with different clamping forces depending on your power output.

Hi jkern. I live down I-79 for ya in Morgantown, WV. I have a 98. 5 ISB with a PowerMax1. I have yet to slip the stock clutch. I have had the PM on my Ram for over a year now. I do need to get a set of guages. I would like to get a set of RV's and maybe trade my PM in on a PM2. Then I am sure I will be needing a new clutch. As for a clutch, there are quite a few to choose from. I guess it all depends on if you plan on doing any future bombing. I have heard the Mcleod dual friction by Jim Leonard will hold about any torque the little ;-) Cummins can make. But, I believe its around $1200. Maybe I will see ya sometime. Maybe get together and compare trucks sometime.
