I expect this subject has been covered several times in the past. Forgive me for not being able to find this answer in the TDR search menu. We are installing qty (2) S. P. A gauges on different trucks and were told they came with a 1/8 NPT fitting for the exhaust manifold sending unit. The directions even show the 1/8 fitting listed. However they arrived with 1/4 NPT fittings. I called S. P. A directly to find out if I could get (2) 1/8 NPT fittings airmailed to me. I was told the 1/8 NPT size was no longer included with the gauges. I was told the smaller 1/8 NPT size fitting which the probe inserts through, gave a quicker reading on EGT changes. However, the 1/8 NPT was harder on the probe life (temp?). The 1/4 NPT fitting was now the only size they have seen come into the USA with the gauges. Does any of this sound reasonable?

I hate to drill the larger size:mad: I fear the larger hole in the exhaust manifold. Should I be concerned with this:confused: or should I just go buy the bigger tap and get on with it. :--) Aother option might be to get the 1/4 NPT machined down. Would this work? The fitting is stainless steel and appears to have enough "meat" to be accomplished!?! Does anyone have qty (2) of the smaller 1/8 NPT fittings available? What do you think:confused: ? Your comments are appreciated. Thanks. :D :D :D :D :D Jim

check out eustispyrocom.com. They make thermos etc. They have a 1/8npt fitting that will fit the SPA 1/8 inch probe. It pretty slick and they are pretty cheap, like 5-8 bucks apiece. dont get the

adjustable one though, the compression parts wont hold up to the high heat.

I ran into similar problem. I got my SPA 2 years ago when the probes were 1/16inch and they used the 1/8npt fittings. I got the new probe, when the old one took a dive, and did not want to drill out the larger hole. The fitting from Eustis works great.

Hope this helps.

My SPA gauge came with the 1/4" NPT probe. No problem- drill with a 7/16" bit & tap it- the larger probe works just fine. The sampling rate for the EGT is settable via a menu system.

JCyrbok - Thanks for your help !!!

J, Your quick reply to my concern was fantastic. It made me laugh:D because you live several thousand miles away, and the Eustis Co Inc is located about 10 miles from my house.

THIS IS A GOOD SOURCE FOR THERMOCOUPLE NEEDS !!

I delt with Bob Finch and he was real helpful. I learned a lot about my S. P. A. probe and where I can get additional help with any future concerns. The connector on my probe were being used throughout their manufacturing facility. Also a good source for mounting fittings and thermocouples replacements too. I walked into their facility with my S. P. A. probe and they had exactly what I wanted. I even got a "nicke tour" of their operation.

The 1/8 NPT S/S mounting fitting part number is NS2 (page 35 of their catalog). Their website is www.eustispyrocom.com Thanks

tell Bob Finch I got the ball rolling his way and he can pay me a commission since I distribute his products

I send J their way :)
