DOT question?

Maint shop and personal projects RANT!

A great deal of fun to shoot. 275 grains jacketed very little recoil. 400 grain jacketed bit of recoil (I enjoy shooting 454 Casull). 440 grain lead hurt just a bit (need shooting gloves). Would not recommed for target practice but for those of use who like to shoot big bore it is a blast. Would buy a 50 bmg rifle but no place to shoot here in Houston

I just sold my 41 muagnum SW. I loved to shoot it. I fell in love with a friend of mines Ruger Bisley (sp. ) 45 long colt. Thats next on the list. The 500 would seem hard to find shells for and a bit exspensive to shoot.

That is one nice thing about the 454 Casull, you can shoot the 45 LC in it as well, the 45LC seems to be a really dirty round however, I shot 100 rounds the other day and my hand was black, took a while to clean up the gun as well. Guy at the local gun store was telling me last weekend one the owners took out the new 4" 500 and his hand was bleeding after he shot it, kind of hard to believe. They had the 4" for $999, seemed high, but the demand for the 4" is still pretty high as it was the last of the 500s to come out. On the other end of the spectrum I have been looking at the 17 HMR, looks pretty cool.

. 17 HMR ooohhhhh :D Best rabbit plinker I own. Not much good for anything bigger though. Great at night, doesn't wake the neighbors up.

I'm in the market for a . 45 LC, is this "Ruger Bisley" the unit I should be looking at? Thanks.

You definitely should try reloading if you shoot the bigger calibers. The money savings is substantial, usually half the cost of new.

I reload 45LC and if I use clean powder like Hogdon Clays I barely have to clean the gun. Lead bullets leave a lot of residue but are cheaper to shoot.

Did anyone see the episode of "Shooting Gallery" from the CZ factory? The host got to shoot some of the full autos including the CZ 75 full auto pistol. Talk about a handfull! I don't know what caliber, 9mm maybe, it was awesome.

Scott,

The Ruger I have is a super redhawk 454 Casull/45 LC, the SRH is double action. I think the Bisley is more of a cowboy old west style gun, single action, different style handle. I am sure it is a nice gun, same barrel length as the SRH but a little lighter as it does not have the large shroud around the cylinder area on the frame and first couple inches of the barrel so it can handle the 454.

CRobertson1,

I saw that special at the where the editor was at the CZ factory, pretty cool, though the place he was shooting looked like it was just a dug out pit in the basement of the factory.

SRadke - The Ruger 45 LC is an excellent weapon. The Bisley has that old west style and is a solid frame gun so you can run some pretty hot loads thru it. Check one out - I did and I like it.

I have friends that reloads and can reload for me. I may shoot 20-30 rounds, clean it and put it up for 6 months waiting for someone to break in. I dont shoot a whole lot. I did however pick up a new Taurus 40cal. SW stainless for $300 around christmas. Wouldnt of bought it but the price was right and it looked brand new.

I shoot bows more than guns. Cause my wife is the Texas State Indoor Champion and the 2003 Outdoor Champion.

There is a place just a block away from work (LAR Grizzly)that sells the 50 BMG. I too would like one of those.

Don't make the mistake I did with the . 17HMR and think it will take out a turkey... it won't at 40 yds. They just fly away and probably die later. But it is fun on rabbits! How about the 500S&W for rabbits... anyone?

Ya... Unless its a head shot.

I shot a tukey once with my 224 express (240 weatherby necked to a . 22 cal)in the head and it ran around in circles for 20 minutes.

A little off topic but does any one know any good sites to sell a few guns? I have looked around but have not come up with much.

Thanks,

Trey
