OK gang,here's a good one for you to think on for me,,With my "mildly" tuned 12 valver I am now chasing a rear tire balance problem,,Problem seems to occur when I drop the hammer on the loud pedal for whatever reason(Furd or Chuvy bashing,Ricer killin or just plain having fun),,Truck will plant the rear tires hard then torque the wheels inside of them,,This most recent incident moved the rims a whopping 8"(tires were marked inside) and it was with my Enkei's and 70lbs of tire pressure,,Now being an ex-racer I know the screw the tire deal and beadlocks,but,talk about unsightly looks with them,,I thought it was the wheel/tire combo I have(Enkei's and Wrangler H/T's) so I purchased a set of Alcoa's and a set of Michilien's and we still got the problem,,I even went as far as to put the ugly steel directionals back on with my worn out Continentals to no avail,same answer,,I have played the tire pressure game and even dremeled the beads to make sure they were not so smooth to no avail either,,This is driving me nuts and wearing me out getting these things rebalanced all the time,,Is this something you BIG bombers have to deal with?,,Anybody got any ideas short of me sticking a bolt under my loud pedal so I don't swat it that hard,,Open to suggestions here... ... .....
 
Wow! You mean the wheels turn inside the tires instead of breaking loose from the pavement? That's something I never thought would happen. I'll have to mark mine, I had the rear balance change a few times with my previous tires, Goodyear, not yet with my new ones, Michelin.
 
I second the "WOW". Your truck must be hooking up well and have a ton of torque. I have never heard of this problem until now.



How about a Centramatic type continous type balancer? This will adjust the balance when the tires slips on the wheel. They are $$, but 2 wouldn't be bad. I run the Sun Tech Balance Masters Mercury filled continous balancers on the front axle of my truck. I am happy with them. The Sun Tech balancers were supposed to be quietier the the Centamatics. I can't find Sun Techs Page anymore.

I agree, WOW! that is amazing! Why don't you look at beed locking the inside. This way you won't have to see it every day.

I can't imagine the coefficient of friction is less on the wheels-to-tires then the tires-to-road unless those tires and wheels were greased like a pig at a rodeo when they were put on?!



Otherwise, I'd look into something "sticky-tack" to put on the tires when they're mounted on the wheel. A-lot of places use a greasy substance to help spin the wheel onto the tire and my bet is if you're doing this at the same shop all the time then whatever they're using is WAY too slimy (like: oil or something) and you should let them know.
 
I have had the same problem since I had the 285 BFGs put on my truck. I took it back to the tire shop 4 times and had 3 of the tires repaced before I realized what was happening. I can usually get 2-3 days out of a balance before it starts to vibrate again. :mad: Really drives me nuts. I have just been putting up with it lately.
 
No Mark,,I am not pulling your leg,,this is a legitmate problem I have and it is driving me nuts,,There is no slick tire application gunk on my wheels used,I already eliminated that one already,, Hemi,I'll check on the continous balancers on Monday,never gave that a thought,DUH,,We have been testing them at my work(trucking company) for awhile now,,I'm never going to say my truck is a big power player or torque monster cause there are certainly bigger and badder ones out there ,,I just am trying to make efficent power down low keeping in the engine's designed rpm band and seem to be doing ok at it,,I do have a problem keeping my foot off the loud pedal and thus lies my problem,,Beadlocks???,,NO,after to many years of screwing with them on my dirt late model I'll stay away from them,unless,I'd do something offroad that would demand it,,Still at the drawing board here... ... ... ... .
 
Good luck Hammer; first time I've heard of this. Man, what a head scratcher. I'd try mild sandpaper on the wheels where the tire bead is. Anything to increase the friction at the contact point. As long as there aren't any burrs I don't think there's any reason the bead has to be smooth. But then; you've probably already tried that...
