Iformation needed on factory recommended safe water fording depth for 2003,QC, SB, SRW, 4X4, 3500, HO, 3. 73, LS, 48RE. Axles vents not inclusive as the vents would be extended. What about the 48re? Does anyone know of a snorkle option for intake & exhaust?

2003 as above.

Maybe someone else can chime in with more info if what I'm about to say is wrong.

I've always figured that you should avoid submerging below your axle centerline, since water can seep past your axle seals. However, if you do go past the centerline you just need to change your differential fluid and re-pack your wheel bearings. Frequent fording would warrant repacking with a marine-quality wheel bearing grease (which would repel water better).

Besides that, you need to be aware of where your axle vent tubes are (as you mentioned), and try not to go so deep that your engine fan is under water.

Check out this thread, too:

Max Fording Depth

Good luck!

At least double Fords

The new Ford F-150 Commercials running on the tube last night showed a maximum fording depth of 24" on the new F-150 on sale Sept 4th. My guess without scientific explanation would be we could do at least what a F-150 will do. Ha Ha :D

If a F150 can do it, I sure dont want

my CUMMINS doing it - cause sitting on side of road for tow is not my kind of FUN :D ;) .

OH, you meant going thru the water ... .....

SOTSU!!
