I usually give people the benefit of the doubt and was going to just leave this situation in the past but the messy interior when I got my truck back and the confrontation with the service manager really irritated me. I even waited 24 hours and am still really irritated so they earned this one:
I took my 07, 5. 9, 3500 QCLB in for some service. It was running rough occasionally, needed and inspection and the automatic trans won't tow anything. (12-14K on gooseneck on wet grass and it won't even spin the tires. ) Let alone move 10K up a hill on asphalt. Truck has AFE intake, Silverline duals, Cummins Exhaust brake (I installed it), Trans temp, boost, EGT gauges and low lift pressure warning light in billet fuel filter cap from Geno's.
The Safford service writer couldn't understand plain english and wrote that the truck runs rough when it is cold. Not what I said. It ran rough just before I dropped it off. I had gone to an appointment and parked it for 2 hours and when I came back it ran rough, smoked the whole street out and the engine the engine temp was over 140, ambient air temp was 65F. It has been running rough occasionally for the last couple of weeks in temps from 30 to 70 F. It continues to run rough until I shut it off and start it again. Usually does it a couple times a week.
They had it for a day and called me, they wanted to know when I put the aftermarket turbo on. Repeatedly asked me the same question. (I got the impression I was headed for an out of warranty claim due to modifcation) I replied same answer of "it is the stock, OEM turbo that came with the truck. " It is the stocker. What the turbo has to do with it running rough, I don't know. After a while the service writer gave up on that question and said since there were no codes set nothing was wrong.
On the trans side they said the same thing, "no codes, no problem. " Can't duplicate the problem.
They said that the engine needed a flash for the exhaust brake. I thought that was interesting because it had been working but sure, I told them to flash it. They kept it through the weekend and on Monday called to say they could not perform the flash. The service writer said they didn't have a certified tech at this point. I said "DO NOT TOUCH IT" and that I would come get it immediately.
I paid for my inspection and had the wife drive it home. The next morning I open the door to get in and the whole door sill, lower panel of the door, carpet alongside the seat, and the floor mat are covered in grease. So I call and tell them they are going to clean it. They say fine and I drop it off overnight again. The next day, Wednesday now (this all started the previous Wednesday) I go back to get it and they vacuumed it but the grease is still all over the door and floor. (Ask anyone that has seen my trucks and the insides look new. My 99 still looks new inside, I am fastidious in cleaning the inside. ) So the 1 year old Laramie is still perfect inside aside from the grease stains there unqualified technician left all over. So I drive it back to the service lane and complain to the service writer and she gets the service manager. So he comes over and says there is nothing wrong and starts in on me like I don't know anything. So give it right back and say that they should not take in vehicles that they cannot work on and have no one qualified to work on. We go round about an entire week lost and that they shouldn't take in vehicles with specific problems that they have no one qualified to work on. He said they do have people to work on them but that they aren't comfortable performing the flash. That is scary to me considering the number of flashes the new trucks need with all the new emissions equipment.
Anyhow, I was invited to leave. So I did.
I went there to buy that truck and another for my wife. I left because the old operators (Joe Jacoby Jeep/Dodge, wouldn't find what I wanted) so I went to Ourisman Dodge in Chantilly and bought a loaded 2500 Mega and my full on 3500 laramie dually. They looked through the dealer net and shipped in what I wanted, no questions no problems. Ourisman has spectacular service, Cummins certified techs and service writers that pay attention to what the customer says and relays that information to the techs well. I even have let their tech, Duane, work on my pride and joy 99, Big Red.
Safford on the other hand has service writers that can't listen well or relay information and techs that aren't qualified or capable and cannot leave a vehicle in good condition. After complaining twice about the mess inside I gave up. I can't say anything good about the entire experience.
The only thing I can say to my fellow members here is to avoid Safford Dodge of Warrenton, Va.
P. S. I cleaned the grease up, 3 minutes with Simple green and a rag. By that point it was the principle of the thing and they should have taken care of it.
