Stopped by a dealer today to look at an EcoDiesel. The salesman advised me to stay away from them because they were having trouble. He said that the trucks were ending up in limp mode after 20k or so and could not get corrected. He was not clear on exactly what the problem is. He his dealership had taken some trucks back. It also may have been with the 2015 models. I haven 't seen any reports of these issues in the forum. Anyone have any info?

I suggest you do your own homework on this. Please go to two other dealers and feel them out. I doubt you'll get that feedback. There is an ongoing issue with certain production dates having an issue with the exhaust system portion of the Emission system, but it's an understood issue, and repairable. A learning curve for the SCR technology, which is not very old in the US.
I am not saying there aren't lemons out there- any vehicle can have issues- but I wouldn't avoid an EcoDiesel if I was shopping for one.

The salesman may have simply wanted to move you up to the more expensive Cummins to get a bigger pay check..I have not had any that could not be repaired yet.Do be aware that the engine is not in the same class as the Cummins

My salesman kept sticking to "The Aisin is an 8-speed transmission" through the entire process with my truck. Car dealer salesmen are a revolving door. You rarely find one that actually knows what they're talking about. They're just fed the propaganda in their sales meetings and sometimes regurgitate this propaganda incorrectly. Since they're not accurate with the "good" stuff, I take their word on potential "bad" stuff very lightly. More often than not the guy was probably selling Subarus just last week.

I can't imagine that there is that kind of "trouble" with the Eco-Diesel. My dealer has really taken some market share away from the GM and Ford dealers in the area with the Eco-Diesel offering.
Not being sold for grocery getter duty either, they are being sold as "woods pick-ups" so equipment operators, foresters, woods foremen, etc. are running the living wheee right out of them. If there is a soft spot it would have shown up by now.

I have over 33k miles have had zero problems, with my Ram 1500 diesel I use the truck for towing scuba diving boat, and tandem axle Ruby jeep in mountains of California.

Yes I had considered that he have wanted to move me up to the 6.7. Being a current owner of a 2003 with a six speed, wouldn't be a hard sell. I am actually trying to research and decide between the Eco, 6.7, or the 5.0 in the Titan HD. My current truck has 280k on it. Other than to rescue my brother-in-law's Excursion and it's replacement I really don't tow. Although I do have a new Kubota that might have a need to be moved. Thanks to everyone for your answers.

I have over 65k miles on mine and it is running like a top, no issues. Build date of 3/14 and it has only in the shop once for a new SCR per a TSB.

Mine been good to date.. 24K miles. There have been confirmed failures...Exchangers, Cranks and bearings, and cam gear slipping.

I have 42,700 miles on my EcoD now. No issues with it. I did have the SCR replaced per the RRT/TSB.

I believe there are over 75,000 EcoDiesel 1500s and JGCs on the road now.
There are some problems, but not an epidemic.

Go to ram1500diesel read, research, make a decision.

Stay Away form Here, Its extremely Bias and liberal , the Mods get involved in just about every thread. I am proud to be banned form 1500diesel.com. I should have NEVER Joined and Will NEVER comment their again.

Go Here Ecodieselram.com it does NOT have the traffic that the 1500diesel.com has but the its more users friendly without **TOP.

Disagreement or requesting someone to back up an opinion with fact is not calling someone a liar. We are all entitled to our own opinions but we are not entitled to our own facts.

If I'm ever in need of diesel service in the Twin Cities, I'll give you a call, until then, have a happy life.
