New Chassis buying experience

Fellow tdr members. . can anyone recommend a superior salesman from Dave Smith they were happy with?

So far, as far as superior salesman, (For a California sale),I have compiled:

Ken Ray @ Tonklin Dodge, Portland

and

Chuck Gilles/Tom Porter @ Carson Dodge, Nevada

and my local dealer, Doug Wooten, Crown, whom I dont think will be in the running but I feel some obligation to try to support the local economy if possible. . so I told them I would let them bid

Im looking at a bid on a special order

2007 3500 C&C, Regular cab, 4 x 4, 143. 5 in wb, wht/grey,6. 7 ctd, Aisin Auto,Exhaust brake, anti-spin diff, cloth seat, sliding window,220a alternator, Single rear wheel, PTO prep, adj idle control, cruise, air, transfer case skid plate shield, full size spare, trailer tow prep, front hood protection shield, Calif emissions

I have a friend who bought from Dave Smith awhile ago and had the truck shipped here... he had to weigh it. . and then dmv. . dmv charged him a full bore list price and didnt honor the rebates for whatever reason. . I had not heard of this. . anyone in Calif have a similar experience?

Im also interested in what people have paid for an 07... not sure if anyone would like to post up their deal. . Im of the opinion if we, as consumers, know what they are going for OTD in the real world we wil all be better equipped in our dealing with the people selling them

I intend to give each dealer their best shot...

I want to thank everyone for dealer direction beyond Dave Smith... and for the body builders guide!!! It might work out better for me to look at another dealer other than Dave because I have to get the truck to Cali and deal with a body and dmv

For those of you that havent experienced California DMV... its an experience in government,,, thats for sure. . just getting a one day trip permit to move a vehicle is fun here

thanks

Sounds like mine but in the QC. 46K OTD, but I just ordered it and you know how things change. If you like that price then you should contact Javier Rodriguez at Frahm Dodge in Norco CA (888-50-DODGE). FYI it has the Nav, Hands free option, and satellite radio. Sorry I forgot to get a copy of the order from the Dealer for exact info. He has been my sales man since I bought my 94 gasser in 94 and has sold me several trucks since.

Mail order truck.

Ca. law dictates that you pay tax on whatever purchase price you settled on. Rebates are not credited towards your sales tax amount. If you buy it here the same thing pertains. The DMV clerk goofed up on mine and only charged me the amount I ended up paying Dave Smith Motors. :) I lucked out so far. Some auditor will probably catch up to me. Weighing it cost $8. 00 and I was out of the DMV in forty minutes and that included waiting on a state employee who was twenty minutes late. They issue you the plates and tags immediately. Done deal. I know Costco has dealers that have a prearranged markup and AAA does also. Maybe they could help. Good luck. That vehicle sounds really sweet if you can get the dealers to cooperate.

ok. . I have

Les McDaniel @ Dave Smith Motors (thanks baja,,I forgot your PM,,sorry)

and thank you all for the other suggestions as well

RV... the list price on my order is $35,030. 00... plus tax license and Doc/transport. . if any... If what I read from most of you is correct the "good deal" on this truck would be 1000 or so below invoice plus any rebates/holdbacks etc?... Is this what others have experienced? (I dont believe there are rebates in effect now. . the dodge site was not helpful there,,, anyone know?)

thanks all

That's Les McDaniel. :) I think he said he'd refer you to the commercial fleet dept. as C&C's are their speciality. They'll provide websites of utility bed manufacturers they work with. Les told me they do 20-30 C&C upfits a month. Ca DMV,weighing is no sweat. DSM sells you a Ca certified vehicle and all necessary paperwork. 90% of their sales are out of area. Just make sure you're comfortable with the product and process. If they'll quote a price for a particular setup,maybe it would give you "ammo" to use down here. Typical sales price is $1000 backof invoice minus incentives and yes you'll owe sales tax on the final selling price,not minus incentives. Nothing we can do about that. The DMV will probably catch up to me. :{

A few years ago Big Bob set up a "go to" guy at Dishman Dodge in Spokane for TDR and NW Bombers members which has resulted in a lot of positive buying experiences. The deals were usually as good or better than DSM, and for anyone flying in you're right there versus having to drive an hour+ to Kellogg ID. Last I knew Richard Bowman was the TDR/NWB sales rep at Dishman (he's not actually part of the sales force so you get to deal with a little more down-to-earth person). Phone 800-457-6500

A year ago Richard Bowman helped me on a special order. Very nice guy and well informed. I couldn't do it at the last minute and he said"no problem". That was after researching the product thoroughly. The reason I went with DSM was that Dishman couldn't get a straight answer from Dodge on being able to order Ca certified vehicle. Very polite gentleman, just like Les@ DSM. Same approx. price too, about $1000-1100 backof invoice.

I live in Redding too and bought a 2006 Mega Cab 3500 SRW from Roger Neff at Dave Smith around April or so 2006. He was great to deal with and after talking with him a few different times I found out that he is A Cage Fighting champion and holds all kinds of weight lifting records and so does his wife. Anyway I was only 18 and was able to get 1. 9% APR and i'm only paying about 39,000 for it, that's with the financed money too. They wanted like 45,000 for a quad cab 2500 short bed with less options at Crown Motors where I live. Anyway you might no want to but you can save a ton of money by registering it in Oregon.

I use 2 guys..... Rob Crosswhite at Dishman Dodge in Spokane, a real nice young man why is usually the salesman of the month... . they and Dave Smith usually give the TDR guys 1000 back of invoice and all rebates and if you belong to the farm bureau that 500 as well... . At Dave Smith I've used a couple of guys but the latest was Marty something... I bought a jeep there...

They both will fax quotes with no problem... there faxed quote is as low as they go, there is no dealing afterwords... and BTW if you go to see something on the lot... in either case... . new or used... call and put a $1000 hold on the truck for a week. . I can't tell you how many customers I've seen at both places show up to see something that they talked about yesterday or the day before and now its gone...

They both move lots of trucks...

Dodge web site is not current, there is a new price for the 6. 7 CTD, its now over 6K and the Jacobs Brake is now standard with the CTD, but the worst is you now have to pay for the DPF which now costs $1800. 00, +or- a few $. The code is "3A1 ---- Clean Diesel Technology System" also the Idle control has no pricing yet per Dealers-Dodge web site and was advised not to order it for it could hold up the order until it was available. I must take delivery by the end of march when I startup my new HVAC business in time for the hot summer.

this echos what Im being told... no pto/idle control. . next update wont be until mid feb. . who knows if a production date for it will occur then

follow my next thread. . Im going to start posting bids. . its no secret. . some dealers will sell at better margins even on the new truck than others... .

They both move lots of trucks...

I passed on my salesguy's name to a co-worker yesterday. He spoke to DSM,secured a vehicle and is flying to Spokane manana. DSM will pick him up @the airport and send him on his way,transfer paperwork in hand. Nobody could touch their price here in San Diego,even with added cost of lodging,fuel,etc. I wish the C&C situation went so well. Anybody looking to buy needs to join the Farm Bureau immediately to benefit from those savings. Nevada according to a member is only $15. 00 :) I paid $75 here and didn't make the deadline as my vehicle was built in 10 days and transported to DSM before the 30 day deadline had passed. :{

Bids have come in as follows... same truck. . apples for apples/ OTD. . w/o tag and title and small doc fees... written bids. Most of the people who I talk to tell me the new trucks will be at or close to invoice... the days of deep discounts arent there. . obviously all shiny new pennies cost more ,, I would think that after the new line is around for a year we will start seeing deeper discounts. . especially as the 4500/5500 come online

Steve Wht Motors

Mike Vincent

North Carolina

$33742 delivered to my door... price included 1295 delivery... he would have been the cheapest by far if I could have picked it up there. . he was willing to work the deal beyond this,, airfare etc...

Carson Dodge (well known to TDR members)

Tom Porter

Carson Nv

$33505 (Carson Dodge is everything people say it is,, very professional)

Aftermarket body bid (over and above truck price)came in at 6400. . steel deck flatbed with top of the line aluminum full top boxes and front lower belly boxes, tailgate, headache rack. Upfitter (Reno truck and Equipment) works with Carson

Crown Motors (my local dealer)

Redding

Doug Wooten

$33780

I was really surprised they were so competitive, this was first bid and they were unaware of others. Doug is stating that the truck is 250 over invoice. I will be querying him as to why his price is higher than the other "invoice" prices I have been quoted

Awaiting body bid. . roughly the same as Reno

TS & S

(Bend Dodge)

Greg Thiessen (TDR member) Fleet manager

$32711

(Apparently there is a 900. 00 upfitter credit still available for a body over 1500. . thru an approved Dodge upfitter,, and a 250 credit if you can show a biz license. . and/or farm credit if you have been a member for more than 45 days) If Greg's price holds up he may be strongly in the running. . they arent a huge dealer, which is heartening because he was aggressive in his price point. . and that means the dealer is giving its sales force the tools they need to make sales.

FYI. . (Mods) I contacted Greg he did NOT solicit me for business

Doug Smith Motors

Idaho

Billy Holland

Invoice. . awaiting actual bid ( Billy was super helpful, he spent a lot of time with me and clued me in on some body building tips for the new cab and chassis. He, echoed by others, informed me in that a 60" cab to chassis needs a 9' body, not 8' as I had spec'd, because of how close the rear frame rail is to the back of the chassis and because there would be insufficient room for the hitch on an 8 footer ,,, also because the fuel tank goes clear to the rear you might want some crush room for safety)

Awaiting a body bid, they use KSEE bodies out of Colorado

Dishman Dodge

Richard Bowman

Spokane Washington

Invoice,, awaiting actual bid (very pleasant)

In hindsite everyone contacted me very quickly, via email, phone, or fax

I havent felt pressure from anyone... which is usually apparent in the car sales market,, truck guys know if they shoot the bottom line and its good... thats all the sales talk that is needed.

I am awaiting some upfit bids but it looks like everyone is real close to each other. . within a few hundred dollars. . it would seem that if I can only save a couple of hundred then the local dealer would be the smart person to use ... for all the reasons there is no need to repeat here. Im going to mull all the deals over the weekend and make a decision the first part of next week.

I also have to say all the people TDR members referred me to have been nothing but helpful and low pressure... which is refreshing in the truck sales arena.

It appears some of the first Chassis cabs slipped through without the 3A1 charges being passed along... some people got some great deals

Its obvious that there is still some fuzzy logic in these bids. . some are 1000 lower than others. . and some dealers are showing "everything" upfitter stuff etc... so I believe it is important to be as knowledgeable as possible when speaking with each of them. I dont think they are holding back I just think some of them need only to be reminded of what mght be available to the consumer.

I also know this... nothing is for sure until its in contract... and even then that might see some subjectivity.

Further to follow...

cam[/QUOTE]You can still find them without the 3A1 charge, There is a SLT QC 2X2 DRW at Frahm dodge still available if anybody is interested. I am not a salesman or will I profit from it, but it is the only SLT I have seen on the lots that has the 5500. 00 CTD and no 3A1 code in fact its the only one I saw in the SLT trim within two states Ca,NV. Even at the LA auto show they had a reg cab in ST trim :( .

You need to remember that guys like Dave Smith and Dishman who I know, sell lots of trucks the old fashioned way. . they earn your business... . and they have forced some of the others to fall in place... . its either bring the price down or loose the deal...

I think there is enough people on the 2 or 3 dodge sights to keep DSM and DD busy with just referrals alone... I know I tell at least 2 people a month who at least call them... Nice people and word of mouth means a lot...

I haven't personally dealt with the others mentioned... . but am sure that if they want the huge numbers needed to play they have had to learn to be good people who provide service...
